Clock too slow

Suddenly the clock on my SE/30 is behaving weird. The internal battery was removed after a Maxell explosion, and instead I did an ugly hack and soldered two wires directly to the underside of the logic board and put the battery holder on the outside of the case. And it has worked very well until now. The clock works when the computer is switched on, but if I have it turned off for some time, the clock runs too slow. It does not lose time completely but just goes too slow. I've tested two new 3.6 V batteries and measured continuity on cables and the battery holder. What could the error be? I'm afraid I damaged something in my recent adventure with the hot air gun...

I had a similar issue once when I recapped a Classic. The issue I had was that one of the diodes between the crystal, RTC chip, and battery was shorting from leaked electrolyte. Check those two diodes and see (they can be found on the schematics available online).

Thanks for the advice! I'll check the area around the crystal and RTC next time I open it up. The board has previously been recapped and cleaned. But it's quite beaten up after corrosion, cleaning and cap/F258 removal (twice) with the crappy hot air gun... I hope it's just some gunk and that nothing is damaged.

I had to actually desolder and clean under the diode myself. That stuff is deadly; it just seeps under even with minimal space.
