Hello, after reading about the maxell battery problem I checked all my macs and sure enough my maxell was starting to leak pretty bad, luckily it didn't seem to really eat anything off the board even the traces under it, I used battery acid cleaner and detector, the stuff that turns red and scrubbed the board with a toothbrush.
Then after washing I scrubbed the board with 70% alchohol and removed all old caps and put in 47uf 16v tantalums. now i get the startup sound then the chimes of death, i removed ram and vram but nothing. any ideas of what i should try next?
