Can IrDA be manually controlled?

Is it possible for me to use the IrDA port on my Pismo to send out custom signals, like remote control codes?

Presumably you need an IrDA Communications Toolbox Tool?

You might need some sort of direct hardware access to do that because it isn't a typical serial signal. I really don't know where to start, though.

IrDA can also receive IR signals, so maybe you could "record" remote control codes and play them back.

Like trick it into thinking your sending a file but it is actually the code to change the the channel or something.

There was a utility to do this with Windows laptops I saw a while ago... can't remember the name.

An IrDA port is just a serial port, I think, so it should be trivial to programme. The bondi iMac I took apart certainly had its IrDA ports connected to a standard mini-DIN serial port...

Does it appear as a separate port in the Serial Tool when you use a Communications Toolbox aware program, eg Claris Works?
