Can a SuperMac C600 read/write 800K disks?

I have an old install set for System 6.0.5 on (4) 800K disks. I'm trying to verify if the disks are still readable. My SuperMac C600 (upgraded with a G3) is running OS8.6 and it gives an error message reading or formatting 800K disks. I don't remember if this computer could ever read 800K disks.

The computer can read System 7.1 Install disks (1.4 MB) without a problem.

Help is appreciated.

Yes. You should be able to use 800k diskettes on this machine, even with 8.6, or up to 9.x.

400k diskettes only work on Macs running up to 7.1, so in practice that means using a Mac II or Quadra era machine as a bridge Mac for the very earliest Macs.

It could be the diskettes you have are bad, got corrupted, or the drive itself needs to be maintained.

The problem was some of my generic 800K disks were not readable. I found the original System 6 disks I bought from Apple - they are still readable.
