building 68K mac floppies on a windows 10 box ?

A while back, I saw a web site with some links to information on how to down load older 68K mac software onto your windows computer, and then write that information to a floppy that a old time 68K mac can read. 
 
I have lost that link.
 
I now have a portable USB floppy drive that I can hook up to my windows 10 computer.  I would like to down load a web browser for my Color Classic.  I *think* my color classic is on line - but I have no web browser to test it.
 
Can anyone point me to a web site or maybe a discussion on this forum on how to down load and write to a floppy that my Color Classic can read?

HFS Explorer will let you read and write to 1.44MB floppies under Windows:

Another option would be to build a Basilisk II emulation environment.

I use RawWriteWin, it will take raw 1.44MiB disk images, and write them to a floppy disk. It works fine under Windows 10. What I like to do is create my images with Basilisk II, and then write them using RawWriteWin. I find that works better than using HFSexplorer. This works fine for me under Windows 10 X86_64.

For high density 1.44 MB drives TransMac (ancient 2003 version I belive) works magic, it also lets me load data from PC to my SE/30 hard disk and it deals with forks and type just fine.

I down loaded and installed TransMac (V 11.10) onto my windows 10 computer. I used windows compatibility mode for the installer and again after the software was installed.  It seemed to install OK and run just fine (no errors).
 
I took a new 1.44 floppy and stuck it in my Color Classic running 7.6.  It said it was a blank PC floppy.  I could not figure out how to format it, so I decided to name it and erase it.  That seemed to work.  7.6 formatted it and named it.
 
Then I stuck the floppy into the USB floppy drive in my windows 10 computer and launched TransMac. Before that, I had down loaded Internet Explorer 3.01.sit.hqx, Netscape 4.08.sit.bin, and netscape 2.02.hqx onto my windows 10 computer.  I tried to place the files onto the floppy and write them to the floppy. But the directions of TransMac only seemed to apply to a CD or a DVD.  I could not figure out a way to write the files to my floppy disk. If I click on tools in TransMac, I can select "Burn CD/DVD image, or erase CD/DVD image.  Nothing about floppy burning or writing.
 
I am trying to get a web browser to my Color Classic.

Can anyone toss me a bone?  I am lost so far....

Themk...  I have down loaded three files I want to move to my Color Classic running 7.6.  The files are:  Internet Explorer 3.01.sit.hqx, Netscape 4.08.sit.bin, and netscape 2.02.hqx.  Do I need to "build" any files?  I am not sure what that means.  I would like to write the three files to a floppy and them move that floppy to my color classic to install them.  Do I need HFSexplorer, RawWriteWin and Basilisk II to do this?  Thanks

Yes that is the RawWriteWIn I use.

So, you don't need HFSexplorer, just BII and RawWrite.

Create a new blank 1.44MB Image (I recommend using an image that is already the correct size, use this, and then rename it whatever you want, and "initialize" it in Basilisk II)

Copy your files to your "disk" in Basilisk II (use the shared folders feature). Close basilisk II, then open the disk image in RawWriteWin, and then click "write" in it, to make a floppy.

Works for me.

I installed RawWriteWIn.  That went fine.  I tried to install Basilisk II, but  I get an error message that says "SDL.dll" is not installed.  Looking around on Microsoft support pages now to see if I can find some help about this....

I down loaded the link you posted about the correct size image.  I have Winlmage loaded on my desktop.  If I understand you correctly, this is what I import into and "initalize" using Basilisk II?  After  I initalize this image with Basilisk II, I open RawWriteWin, and toss my three files onto that image and write to the floppy?

I looked on the web for this sdl.dll file that basilisk ll wants to see before it can install.  I found web sites that wanted to give me this file for free, but it came with a lot of crap, so I aborted the down load.  Some web sites suggested that it was problematic to grab a SDL.dll file from just any place as it could be a virus or something else bad.  I can not find a trusted source for this file.  Can anyone give me any suggestions?

My version of Windows 10 is up to date with all the latest security and non security updates.

And posted a question about finding a sdl.dll file.  Some of the messages are very old.  I am not sure if this is the most active forum for this software or not.
 
Gez!  All of this work just to install a web browser on my Color Classic!  I think I have all the other software I need.  If I were not stuck in Ecuador (where the post office is broken) I would just buy a floppy or CD form someone and have it mailed to me.  But that is not an option...

You'll need both of these. 

Copy the sdl.dll file into the Basilisk II directory and run the GTK setup.

Thank you for the help Compgeke.  I down loaded the package gtk 2.10.13 and installed it.  I down loaded the SDL.dll file and placed it in the folder with the basilisk II installer.  I ran the basilisk installer.  It ran this time,  but did not complete the install.  I received a different error message.  This time it says:
Can Not open ROM file
 
Perhaps I did the install in the wrong order??
After a bit of reading I found out that I could force windows 10 to scan my system and replace any missing or broken .dll and other files.  The text for this command from the command prompt is:
 
sfc /scannow
 
(One needs to run the above command as admin for it to work)
 
On my very fast machine it took over 5 minutes to run this command. 
 
After it ran, windows said:
 
Windows Resource Protection did not find and integrity violations
 
So close yet so far away.....
 
At least I do not a missing SDL.dll issue any more.  Thanks again for the help.  I am getting closer!

ROM file is a macintosh ROM file. Basilisk II emulates a (almost) complete 68k mac computer.

I have a program called HFV explorer that is free and can read all sorts of Mac formatted media like zip disks, floplies, and CDs. It works great and you don't need any disk images, you can just drag and drop files. If basilisk doesn't pan out perhaps try that.

Pulling the last of my hair out now.  10 hours into this and I can't move a file over to my Color Classic....

I just realised something.  None of the four web browsers I have will even fit onto one floppy.  I have down loaded to my windows 10 box:

icab 2.2 (stuffit archive), (1.83 MBs)

Internet Explorer 3.01.sit.hqx, (5.8 Mbs)

Netscape 4.08.sit.bin, ( 14.9 MBs)

netscape 2.02.hqx (2.59 MBs)

I guess I need to find a utility that will let me burn a CD in my windows 10 computer that the external CD drive I have hooked up to my Color Classic can read. 

Suggestions?

If you already have it on a Mac or an emulator, then you can download Split and Join from Macintosh Garden (I believe it fits on a single floppy), put it on your Mac and your emulator, split your payload there, and rejoin it at your Mac.
