Asante EN/SC Extension Freezes my PowerBook 180 on startup

Hello y'all !

I just got a Asante EN/SC Ethernet to SCSI converter !

Yeah, it's the old dark gray VHS-size box, to match the PowerBook series of that time.

The software, the Asante EtherTalk Installer (v. 5.6.1), detected my box so it installed the right software for it.

After it asked to reboot, I rebooted, and guess what... it just froze !

It boots up fine with Extensions disabled, but when it boots with Extensions turned on it freezes at the loading of the Asante EN/SC Extension.

I had already had that problem with the DigiDesign SoundDesigner stuff, but then my system (an SE/30 btw) just needed 32-bit memory enabled.

I already tried this with the PowerBook, but it just won't go past the Extension-loading screen.

I'm on system 7.1, btw.

That runs kinda speedy with 8MB of RAM :beige:

Shall I backup all my data and update my PowerBook to system 7.5.3 ?

If that would fix it, it would be kinda strange, because the software claims to work with as low as system 6.07.

So... what should I do to fix it ?

Try turning off/ removing from the relevant folders into the "disabled extensions/ control panels" folder any other non-standard/ non-essential extensions or control panels -- or use Conflict Catcher, which will (somewhat) automate the process.

That awkward moment when the Macintosh Garden is offline for maintenance while you need it...

EDIT : Whoohoo, I found it on the Mac GUI City !

Let's try this out !
