Another LC Restore, LC630

So I got nice condition LC630 recently, it had no HDD and only the on-board 4 MB Ram .... but, it had the full fat 040 instead of the LC040! :D

I originally got it up and running with a laptop IBM 1 GB HDD but have since found a compatible 1GB CF card which flies along nicely! I dropped in a 32 MB Ram SIMM. Due to the 040 getting a touch warm for my liking, I've now used thermal glue to install a nice passive heat-sink to keep it cool - I'll prolly overclock it to 40 Mhz now! :D Oh and I tossed in my PDS Farralon network Card and got it "working" on the Net for fun with MacOS 8.1. :D

I'm super jealous. My Performa 630CD has 36MB of RAM but only a lowly LC040.
You could always find one on Fleabay, they just drop right in.

Btw, It's been so long since I've used MacOS 8.x that I cant recall if "about this Mac" identifies the model like 7.x does? Mine doesnt appear to.

That's a Quadra 630 in sheep's clothing.

Rip that LC 630 name badge off of there and accept the kind of happiness that only a Quadra can give.

also the motherboard can be overclocked to 40 nhz without issue by moving a couple of resistors.

Nice find! But my question is... How did the '040 get there? Logic Board swap?

(Also, I like the VIC-20/C64 in the background of the first pic! :p )

Correction: A Quadra 630CD. The regular 630 didn't have a HDD..

They are socketed so very easy to replace and the pin out it identical for the LC and RC socketed variants.
Cheers, next to my Mac's is a c64 and 1541 floppy drive above it.

Wait a minute!

All 63x machines had a hard drive as standard equipment (I believe). Those with the CD designation had internal CD-ROM drives (which were optional extras on non CD machines I think).

Yeah I'm guessing that was a typo.
