Another Laserwriter

Snagged a (second) Laserwriter 8500 today, with 500 sheet feeder and envelope cassette add-ons, which are nice to get. Now, if only I had the duplex option! I haven’t seen it working yet, so perhaps it will be for spares only, but the hope is to put it into service on the home network. Much faster than my Laserwriter Pro 630, which has the usual episodic accordion paper fault, anyway.

Am I the only person in the world who likes old printers? Is there a treatment for this illness, do you suppose?

I have my share of old printers (mostly lasers, a few dot matrix, and an Apple inkjet). The last vintage printer I snagged was a HP 4si with Postscript and all the interfaces so I can pretty much print from any old vintage machine.

I kept all of my old laser printers all the back to the 90's. I upgraded mostly because of better resolution and speed (plus drivers to support my current OS). None of the old printers ever failed me in use. You tend to snag printers in hauls of other equipment you want (like Commodore dot matrix printers for example).

I have a couple of ImageWriter II's, a LaserWriter IIg, a couple of Personal LaserWriters, and an HP LJ 5 with appletalk card.

No,  I guess I am a nut too.  I still have an old Samsung Laser Printer circa 2000 that has Epson emulation so it works with everything,  I also have an Epson LQ 590 Dot matrix (Recent model), A star NX-1000C Rainbow, Star NX-2420 Rainbow, StyleWriter 2400 and a couple of USB Canon bubble jets that use the same ink tanks as the StyleWriter (not surprising since the StyleWriters were mostly Canon mechanisms).  

I don't yet have any LaserWriter printers and I would like to have one but am out of room as printers take up a lot of space.

I Have an old laser that never got drivers past Windows XP. Still have it; refuse to get rid of a perfectly good printer that literally has 1000's of pages left on its primary replaceable parts.

I still use my LaserWriter Pro 630 with my modern equipment, including Windows 10 and Mojave.  Prints just lovely.  Text just flies through that thing, but a document with a lot of graphical detail can take a bit too long to process.  I've been thinking of retiring her for something a wee bit quicker.

I have a LaserWriter NT. I tested it once, but the testing paper was mostly dark. So I disposed the cartridge. I`m not in a hurry to clean and restore it, since there must be lots of fine toner dust inside. It`s in nice condition though.

I've been interested in older printers for a while. Even though I doubt I'd use them much, I'd like to have my Compact Macs be able to print, maybe even over a network (another thing I really would like to setup once all my Compacts are up and running). Plus, having an old printer is a good backup for the new HP printer we have downstairs. Sure, it has newer features, but god knows how long that will last.
