a 33mhz NeXT board? Rob has never seen one...

Rob from black hole, has me re-capping a stack of NeXT boards.

I started and completed the worst looking one first, I said yeah you know that 33mhz 040 baord, just got that one done.

I know almost 100% nothing about NeXT.

HE said ah, no.. said that he has never seen an 33mhz 040 next cube board, well this one here not only has a bigger HS then the others.

but it has a 33mhz full 040 in it... and the circuitry right near the CPU is slightly different then the 25mhz 040 variant.

So i have good reason to believe this one here, that was in a stack of not working pulls... might acutely be a 33mhz 040 next board.

i sent him a picture, maybe he will be surprised?

I'm slightly excited.

That's not turbo. They gave you 72 pin SIMM slots and did away with the MO connector.

That indeed looks like your regular 25mhz 040 board. I need more detailed photos of the board and the crystal speeds. If this actually is running at 33mhz and not 25 on a 33mhz part this is the first board known to be doing this. It could be a very late revision or even a prototype precursor to the Turbo series.

Edited: Hey wait a minute. You have yellow silkscreening. All 040 boards I've seen either have white or none at all.

i dont have any way to test, but i guess rob will when he gets them back.

rob also said that.

i dont see any oscillators that control the cpu speed there is some circuitry that is right near the cpu... and that whole area near the cpu has different parts in different orientations. when you set the 25mhz board side by side.

its weird this stack i got from from rob, its like all 10 boards are slightly different in various ways its like they are prototypes or something.

( not like mac's where they are all mostly the same looking )

he said they had a state of the art facility, and could change a board half way through the days production if they wanted to.

here is a video of the NeXTproduction facility.
