4 iMacs & 1 eMac

I picked up four iMacs and an eMac from a nice couple that didn't have space for them.  I paid $200.  They are in really great shape.  Now I need to figure out what to do with them.  Any suggestions?  The iMac G4 will likely be my primary focus initially.  I believe this model can natively boot OS9, but I don't think the hard drive is set up properly for dual boot.  Hopefully I can find the install media on the garden.  It doesn't have a mouse or the speakers, so I might start looking for those...

Yes, that model should boot OS9 with no problems and will run it quite nicely.  This restore disc set should work for you: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/restore-disc-set-imac-g4.  Main thing is to make sure that the HD has OS9 drivers installed if you're partitioning it in OS X.  The keyboard that's specific to this model might be a little harder to find in non-yellowed condition but they are out there if you look hard enough.  The mouse and the speakers are very easy to find.

Thanks for the garden link.  I found that last night, but I wasn't 100% sure it was the right one.  How does the process work?  Will restore disks 1-6 install everything back to factory fresh? Including dual boot with OS9?  I'm confused why there is also an OS9 install iso.  I've done zero research, so please forgive me for asking something I could probably figure out with a little searching and reading...

I also have the correct mouse. Thanks for the links.  I'll keep an eye out for the speakers.

I have my original iMac G4 and all the original install media. I can get you images no problem if you need them. Mine has OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.4 on it. Works very well.

Yes, the six disc restore set will put it back to how it arrived new in the box, dual booting OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.1.2 and all the preloaded software installed.  The separate OS9 and OS X CDs are so you could reinstall just the OS without all the extras.

Thanks. I don’t really care about OS X. I think I’ll just get the OS9 iso and load a clean version of that.

The original iMac, it would be neat to see what revision that is...I am unsure as to if some are more valuable than others. Apparently good, working iMac G4s are somewhat hard to come by...screen issues someone told me.I had no idea since mine works fine...

Thanks. I am thinking I’ll probably sell the later iMacs at some point. I never had one, and my interests are more in 90’s macs. I had a Quadra 660 back in the day, paired with the 14” Audiovision monitor. I regret selling those.  

I’ll see if I can figure out what rev the original iMac is when I get home.

Nice score on the 1.25GHz eMac! A lot of eMacs out there are sub-1GHz.

I had one that had the 'red shift' screen issue.  At first it was like having a plasma display and kinda cool, but that feeling went away pretty quickly, when it was your main work machine.  I got mine working normally again, but I could never trust that the issue wouldn't come back and I really didn't like working inside it, so I sold it.  That is one that I regret losing, especially since I had bought it new,  One of the coolest Macs ever, IMO.  Enjoy, sixsevenco ... and color me envious.
