In the past I transplanted a 640x480 5300c screen onto a 190cs with great success. I rather liked it because it ran on a 68LC040, sported an active matrix display once altered, was equipped with a whopping 40MB (48?) of RAM, and took an easily replaced IDE drive. Alongside all that, it had the modular design for a Zip drive and PCMCIA of later PowerBooks. And I even had the Zip module (though a couple of years ago I sold that on here, where someone was pleading for one).
The machine‘s battery leaked soon after the new screen went on, however, and the machine was damaged (the copper sprung contacts for the battery were eaten away), so it got put on a shelf awaiting repair — I had a donor logic board standing ready and all. But life took over in the form of a very hard knock, I never got back around to it, and the upshot is that I haven’t touched the machine for maybe 15+ years.
I think I must still have it somewhere in storage. If interested in having it for parts, I could have a poke around, but most of my stuff is pretty inaccessible just now so I wouldn’t hold my breath in excitement….
