17" Studio Display Hinge Issue

Decided to try out the monitors I got in a pickup last week. This m7649 seems to work perfectly well. Cosmetically, it's got some scratches, but I can barely see them when the thing is on.

The only problem I have, is that the leg slides all the way to the furthest extension when the monitor is stood upright. I disassembled it and took a look. I couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong but i think I've figured it out.

(I think?) the tensioner springs that hold the hinge are supposed to be held with some kind of little clip that seems to have been broken off as in the picture below.

Is there any way around this? The monitor sits at an almost flat angle with the leg extended all the way back and it's just unusable this way.

I thought maybe of sticking a couple screws into the gaps on the outside ring to prevent the hing from rotating and keep it at the full upright angle, but i can't find anything small enough to fit within the plastic housing that surrounds the spring assembly. When I tried the ones I could find, it "puffed out" the plastic just enough that the leg doesn't match up with the screw holes on the flange.

Any ideas or replacements to get this fixed? Would be nice to have a monitor to match my MDD.

Hmm...possible. Not sure I want to spend any money on this thing though. It's a really pretty screen for the time. Kind of considering replacing the case altogether and making a custom one.

Some random thoughts.

Unwind the spring one turn. Drill holes through white metal plate. Thread unwound spring through. Bend to lock into place.

Would that work, I wonder?

Another solution would be to seize/ lock the damaged hinge at a single angle, perhaps by adding a thin plate to one side that is pre-bent to that angle, and then live with what you get on reassembly. I don't think I have adjusted the angle at which my ADC displays sit for years.

I got one of these for 10 bucks last week (an m7649, missing the plastic third leg, but the hinge is there and working).  I don't want to stop you from being creative, but I bought it for the cable and could take out the hinge, since it is legless and send it along to you for postage.  IM me, if interested.

Maybe, but meh. Juror22 is going to send me a spare so that should take care of it with almost zero effort.
