133mhz 603e with L2 cache vs 400mhz G3 with no cache

Interesting question for you all...

I have a 1400c with a 400mhz G3 upgrade. However, the L2 cache is bad and cannot be enabled without constant freezing (usually doesn't even make it past the extensions march).

I still have an original (either 133mhz or 166mhz, will need to check) CPU daughtercard, with what I assume to be a good L2 cache.

Which would be faster?

G3, hands down.

The PB 1400's 133 MHz 603e only had a 128 KB L2 cache - the G3 has half that on-die as L1 cache. Even with only half the cache, that cache being full-speed on-die combined with the 3-times-faster CPU (and the architecture improvements the G3 has over the 603,) makes the G3 faster, no matter what.

What's the brand of the G3 card in your PB1400? Before ruling out the cache as being completely gone, you might be able to use CPU Director to downclock the backside cache speed.
