After using the powerbook for awhile the fan kicks in full bore. This fan is as loud as MDD was. Is this normal or is the fan getting ready to fail? Anyway to quiet it down?

I am looking at picking up one of these drives along with a 80pin to 50 pin adapter for the Q700. I pulled the docs for the drive, it states there is a jumper setting on the drive to force it into Single Ended Mode. From reading this means it should work in my mac correct?
