Powerbook 180 video -> vga -> hdmi setup

Hey there all. I'm doing a few vintage computing demos in about a month, and I'd like to hook my Powerbook 180 up to an HDMI monitor. So far I just have the video connector to mac video adapter, but I imagine I need two more steps to get there. In the interest of not spending too much time/money...

    Makeshift Battery for PB180

... wow, I could have sworn this pack did not have those listed on there when I purchased it, but archive.org seems to confirm it was there all along and I just missed it. Amazing, that simplifies the installation even more. Thanks for flagging that.

    PB180 ZuluSCSI disk sleep issues?

OK checking in again here after a few weeks, and still no sleep till brooklyn over here. I tried dropping a new PRAM battery in just for fun, and also tried running with a single HD image on there and a few other random things, but I still just get a grey screen after rebooting. If I...

    Makeshift Battery for PB180

Wanted to share some experiments that I did recently with custom battery packs. Quick disclaimer: I know thermal fuses are missing in these photos, and I promise none of these are in active use / being charged until I add them. They were long delayed in shipping, and I had so many variables to...

    PB180 ZuluSCSI disk sleep issues?

AHhh one more thing: I definitely did get this to sleep and restore from the Zulu like one or two times out of 20, but not stable with any particular settings, and most of the time it just launches the grey screen with a cursor. After a second or two I hear the hard drive click once and then it...

    PB180 ZuluSCSI disk sleep issues?

I cracked it open once more and just turned everything back to the defaults. I also removed a CD image and a Zip Disk image I had on there that I hadn't mounted yet just to cut down on variables. It does seem to boot fine with a stock zuluscsi.ini after updating it. I did reduce the sync scsi...

Immaculate 180 - preventative maintenance / battery ideas

OH one other thing: after I opened the bottom case, the two standoffs that held the silver bracket that goes over the floppy drive and hard drive had crumbled before I even touched them. So far, the other standoffs are intact, but I see what folks are talking about with these things getting brittle.

Immaculate 180 - preventative maintenance / battery ideas

Quick update over here: I still haven't gone into the display bezel, I'm just throwing a little salt over my shoulder and opening it real gingerly. But I *did* build a new battery pack. I didn't have a lot of time, so I remixed a case on Thingiverse to just make a big empty box, then I used...

    PB180 ZuluSCSI disk sleep issues?

Thanks a lot for the reply (and the email)! I totally agree, I'm not really concerned about the sleeping from a power perspective. Being able to sleep the laptop is a nice to have, but if I could just stop it from trying to power down the drive and hanging that would be fine. I couldn't find a...

    PB180 ZuluSCSI disk sleep issues?

My Powerbook 180 restoration continues apace. I recently replaced the ancient spinny drive with an RP2040 based ZuluSCSI from rabbit hole (https://store.rabbitholecomputing.com/ZuluSCSI-Laptop-RP2040-2-5-inch-p/zuluscsi-rp2040-laptop-2.5-in.htm). Got it up and running without too much trouble...

Immaculate 180 - preventative maintenance / battery ideas

Thanks a lot for all the advice! I do have a reliable old 3d printer, so maybe I'll print a couple of those mount replacements just in case. So I think I'll plan to open up the screen bezel and see what we're dealing with first. If everything looks/remains intact after disassembly, I think I'll...

Immaculate 180 - preventative maintenance / battery ideas

Hey friends, I've been learning a lot here, I'm not green to retro hardware but I'm new to Powerbook restoration. I picked up a 180 that seems to be in perfect shape, been sitting in a padded bag for 25 years. The battery is toast of course but didn't leak. It powers up and works a treat with...

Mount a ZuluSCSI image in MiniVMac

Thanks so much, I was about to add that link to this thread! the dd commands were exactly what I was looking for. Haven't had a chance to try on the real hardware yet, but some promising experiments in emulator land. I was curious about one thing: for the dd command where you basically just...

Mount a ZuluSCSI image in MiniVMac

Apologies if I missed an answer out there somewhere. I've got a Mac Classic happily booting from an external ZuluSCSI rp2040. I also have a Classic build of MiniVMac running on my machine. I would love to be able to use images from either one on the other. I know miniVmac uses images closer to...
