I've got a battery damaged LCIII almost completely operational.
The original battery holder (long gone) has been replaced with a CR2032 with the positive side connected to the remains of the + connector for the battery holder. However the system isn't holding its settings.
Unfortunately the...
I've been handed an LC III which had some localised battery damage but the CPU pins got damaged and the previous owner tried to fit a new CPU, got stuck and handed me the machine.
I've replaced the CPU with another one and although it doesn't look great all the legs tone out correctly...
Does anyone have the specification (thread/length) of the screw which holds the floppy/hard drive cage onto the base of the case in the IIci?
It's missing from the machine I have and would like to find a replacement.
I've a recently fixed (battery and cap damage) IIci which has the symptom that the voltages on the RGB lines on the video connector are very low when the machine is first powered up but they increase over a period of about a minute to the correct values. If the machine is shut down then the...
Is there a diag ROM for the Mac which outputs information via the serial port as it tests hardware as other platforms have?
I really could do with something which checks the hardware before the display and NuBus are initialised on the IIci. Something like a minimal RAM test and basic hardware...
I have a sick IIci motherboard which has a half dead RBV chip. Would anyone, preferably in the UK or Europe, have a recovered working chip I could purchase?
I'm currently trying to diagnose a Mac IIci which has been passed from retro-enthusiast to retro-enthusiast to try to repair it.
Previous people have fixed the battery damage to the point where it will bong and then turn the display black and finally crash as soon as the NuBUS select line goes...
I've just bought a set of four 4MB SIMMs from eBay and I'm getting the following symptoms:
All four SIMMs in either RAM bank (if in bank B then with known working SIMMs in bank A): Fails POST: corrupt display.
Replace one known good 1MB SIMM with any one of the new 4MB ones: Happy chime...
After finally getting around to looking at my second SE/30 and its SCSI problem I think I need a second opinion:
The machine is fully recapped and other than the SCSI issue works perfectly.
Symptoms:
SCSI disks are seen but any filesystem found on the device gives an error "Invalid name"...
OK, here's a strange one. My Macintosh Portable works fine when powered up but after about 10 minutes of use if I shutdown then it "twitches in its sleep". The sound crackles and the display randomly displays things. Pressing the spacebar wakes the machine and it's happy again.
This happens...
A couple of months back I bought a 1MB SRAM card for my Macintosh Portable (non-backlight) from a vendor in France via eBay. Unfortunately the vendor lied that it was in full working order as it didn't work. (Thankfully I got my money refunded and he didn't want it back.)
Well, something...
