Don't put the battery back, they can leak and damage boards. One of mine had.

As for clock battery, if you want it, I just cut the terminal off and soldered the connectors to a 3-AA battery holder. Works just fine.

Nice work. Echo the comments about those original batteries - they can leak through the pins and cause problems.

What LaPorta said - but I'd also strongly recommend using Lithium AAs, not Alkalines. Modern alkaline batteries leak SO dang often.
