Well, I do notice that if I go through AppleShare in the chooser, everything seems to work okay. Still slow, but I suspect that's normal when considering that 68k Macs had slow-ass ethernet.
The frequent pauses when nothing is going on are gone at least.
I guess the solution is to NOT mount...
1. Technically, yes. At the moment, no.
2. I pretty sure I'm using classic networking. All I do on the Powerbook side is activate AppleTalk, switch to EtherTalk, and turn on file sharring. Once that's done, the iMac sees the PB through the Network Broswer and can mount its hard drive on the...
This question covers a lot of territory, but I'm sticking it in software because I suspect that's where the problem lies.
I have managed to get System 7.5.3 (PB520) and 9.2.2 (G3 iMac) to talk to each other using an AAUI transceiver, a Cat 5 crossover cable, turning file sharring on on the PB...
You used to be able to play YouTube on the VERY last build of Flash 7 for OS 9. Without hacks. I think it was "r73," released around 2005, or something. You have to hunt around for it, as it wasn't well known. I posted this info on the LEM OS 9 list about a year or two ago. I never tried it in...
Keep in mind that your EULA, as a legal contract, may have been superceded by another. Or no is longer in force. This did happen with Corel Wordperfect 3.5e, where Corel basically said "ignore the EULA with the software, it's now freeware." Ditto with a couple of other things like Sim City 2000...
Just an addendum to this:
Wikipedia is claiming that all versions of System 7 were always free to distribute. Now, I dunno if that's true, Wikipedia can be full of crap... but I thought I'd bring it up.
I do recall reading, in the book Apple Confidential years ago, that Apple didn't consider...
What if somebody is (arguably, at least) legally entitled to the software?
For instance: I purchased a Powerbook 520, and I'm pretty sure that it came from the factory with 7.1 and restore floppies. These floppies have been lost to time, since I purchased it second hand. I also believe that the...
That's about what I thought. Funny how the older tech is better in this regard. Then again, I have always suspected that keyboards are really regressing.
I purchased my 520 with the intent to use it as a easily movable word processing machine, but I'm kinda put off by the keyboard (but...
Based entirely on keyboard quality and nothing else, what one was better?
I know people rave about the keyboard on the 1400, but I've heard the Wallstreet was good too.
