    ANS AIX setup

No...I'm not part of the Shiner team, former or otherwise. I did a lot of consulting work with Apple in California in the mid to late 1980s, I think my last gig there was in 1990? Maybe '91. I am definitely a Apple girl, though. I actually worked on the project that made the Apple IIe (and...

    ANS AIX setup

Hey Leo! I'm a Unix Systems consultant, and I specialize in what I call "salvage work" and in multi-OS environments---salvage work is going in and putting right a company's central IT that successive (or the same) CIOs or VPs of IT have screwed up. IBM shipped an 3rd-Party OEM AppleShare...

    ANS AIX setup

Leo... I certainly not disagree with your view vis-a-vis an ANS and a Macintosh of any flavour; the ANS is closer to a RS6K than to a Macintosh. However... That does NOT make the ANS "close" to an RS6K. As you and I discussed earlier, the ANS has specific Apple hardware built into its mother...

    ANS AIX setup

OK, now you've added **another** level of complication, with the RAID card. Is your RAID card connected (there are two SCSI ribbon cables and a cable known as the AMI cable that plug into the motherboard---without these cables plugged in, the card is useful only for connecting an external RAID)...

    ANS AIX setup

OK...I'm no longer exactly sure what it is you want to do, besides install AIX. The phrase "across three disks...the way I want..." may be deceptive. The way the install should work is that you stick the AIX for ANS Install CD in the CD-ROM drive, press the power key, and after what seems like...

    MacTCP query

MacTCP is a fully-compliant TCP/IP (and thus UDP/IP) driver. Your SMC Router (Model??) should have no trouble on this account, unless it was specifically built for DOSBOXES (in which case you're probably hosed). The signal point to me seems to be a bit of confusion in your network topology...

Snitch, IPNetTuner, Joliet Volume Access, Solitaire Till Dawn (so much so, I actually paid for them all...at least once...).

    SAM

Yes. And **some** WDEF-type viruses were built to avoid being "rebuilt" by hiding as "Comments" (Get Info)---so you'd have to choose between erasing your comments (if you had any, like say the s/ns or nifty hack hints), or scanning your disk & cleaning it with SAM (which was an VVG Virus app...

If all else fails... FWB Hard Disk Toolkit!

Charlieman's reply has the Truth You Seek! I find that I can many a 9G drive on A/UX by first doing a low-level format on a str8 Macintosh 7.5.5 system with Anubis 3 (I prefer 3.09 but 3.04e works fine). You should NOT have to use a DOSBOX to format you're drive. I have yet to find a drive that...

A/UX hangs after upgrade to 3.1?

The basis for the FAQ I have is JAG's multi-part A/UX FAQ, which one can still find here and there, but mine includes additional info available since then. I believe one can find the base JAG FAQ on Penelope, as well as other hints and tricks: http://www.aux-penelope.com/downloads.htm I...

Well I have to say...ok, I **want** to say---what is there to be gained by taking a single document through what appears to be a four-stage process, just to publish it? The effort seems wasted to me. For professional documents---and a Thesis is certainly a Professional Document---there are...

    ANS AIX setup

There are two issues you've raised, the disk config, and the 100BT card. 'porter' has dealt with the first pretty well, but I'll add this: the initial install of AIX 4.1.4 for ANS will walk you through a full install, including the trip into the Disk Management system. Unlike clunky dinosaurs...

A/UX hangs after upgrade to 3.1?

Your problem is almost certainly your hardware, either your machine itself, or your RAM. Firstly, A/UX 3.1 will not run on the SE/30, although the Official Line was that A/UX 3.1 was "unsupported: and 3.1.1 was not "recommended" for the SE/30 (and II/IIx/IIcx) due to "unreliability". Personally...
