Another "conquest" arrived... this one is not for the faint of heart.

This was the first computer I had to give a bath before I could open it, the top screw holes were completely filled with corrosion.

After a little bit of cleaning with a toothbrush... there's lots of MISSING traces. This one might be a lost cause.

No, it's definitely a Maxell. If you look carefully at the sixth photo from the top, you can clearly see the distinctive red label.

Besides, they're the only brand that is known to die in this manner (to my knowledge, most other brands rarely explode like Maxells do).

I was looking at a couple of 6500s on Ebay from the same seller, one 250 and the other 225MHz.   His photos included a bottom shot and one of them had substantial corrosion on the bottom plate.  I can't be sure a battery leaked or exploded in there, but it seemed likely.

Anyway, if you're buying a machine that has a metal bottom (everything except the compacts?), it can be helpful to ask the seller for a photo of the bottom if there isn't one already
