Studio Display M4551(A) Software?

I’m having trouble pairing a Studio Display M4551(A) with a Macintosh Display Card 24AC (ROM 1.1) in a Macintosh IIcx. I can only display 640x480, not the native resolution 1024x768.

Is there any suitable software out there?

Thanks,

KTKM

I know the Display Card 24AC supports 1024x768 at 60 and 75Hz and 24-bit colour depth, but I think that its sense coding scheme is incompatible with the more modern DDC used on your Studio display by default. Many of Apple's more modern monitors utilising the DA-15 connector and DDC have a way of turning it off via the menu/on screen display. That might be the ticket here. If not, SwitchRes should show the hidden resolutions.

SwitchRes sounds interesting! Too bad I can’t run OS 8.x.  :( Thanks rsolberg.

Sadly, the Studio Displays were never supported on 68K systems and Apple specifically listed 24AC as not being supported. I learned that the hard way with my Quadra 700+PPC upgrade (using Radius rom version of 24AC). Griffin did make some DA15 adapters to help legacy systems but I can't recall which ones.

PS: Congrats on beating me on Tradera on that card!  ;)

Ahh, I see! Thanks omidimo, sorry about the card, good hustle!  :)

Nix that one. I had my adapters mixed up. This one is meant for older monitors on newer computers:

The Mac Res Adapter is the ultimate solution to bringing your old monitors alive when connecting them to Power Macs and other new models. The adapter was designed to allow virtually all monitors to be used with your Apple computer. This innovative adapter allows users to easily select the proper resolution for their fixed frequency or multisync monitors.

Apple Computer's on-board video incorporates resolution sensing ability. The adapter configures the proper sense codes to tell the computer what size monitor is attached and to communicate the monitor resolution to the computer's video card.

Features

  • Compatible with the built in video of all Mac models and most third party video cards
  • Easily select between any of Apple's on-board video modes
  • Successfully tested by Apple Computer and by all major monitor manufacturers
  • Quick reference guide on back of adapter for easy installation
  • Supports all current and future Apple video modes
  • Featured in prominent Macintosh magazines
Technical

  • DB-15 male connects to the computer on-board video. DB-15 female connects to the video cable
  • Tested for FCC class B compliance
  • Gold plated switches provide excellent reliability and durability
  • Dimensions are 1.55 cm x 6.1 cm x 4.2 cm
Griffin had quite a few adapters back in the day. It's all a blur now. I did use a Sony LCD panel with my Radius card with no problem once I installed the drivers.
