Yep, all SEs have a 50 pin SCSI header on the mobo. I assume the Molex is also in the wiring. It'd actually be cheaper for Apple to leave it in by reducing the number of wiring harnesses to stock.

Nooo... SCSI2SD can be powered from the Termination. On the plus, you have to solder in a diode. and that diode is right next to the SCSI IC so its just an additional pin up the same ribbon.
I have to disagree with that statement. I personally love my Ethernet networking card in my SE FDHD. Allows me to push data directly to it from my MacBook Pro
If SE ethernet cards were obtainable then I might agree. It's far easier to get a localtalk ethernet bridge.

Make that a three. I also have one but I can't find the drivers\software anywhere (non-corrupted, anyway). If you watch ebay for a while they do pop up now and then fairly cheap.They're obtainable, at least two of us in this thread have them
I'm pretty sure the one I have works in System 6, but it's been a couple years since I messed with it. For sure in 7.1.
Make that 4. But the miniscribe which housed them is well... dead.... A low level format fixed all the issues, but guess what happens when you do that.
I removed both Miniscribe drives and still have them on the shelf. Occasionally I power them up just for fun. Both still work fine, but suffer from stiction every time... a quick smack to free up the head fixes it, but that is not a realistic option once it's installed into a computer. Both of my SE's now have much larger hard drives installed.
How many of you have them already says nothing about how easy they are to acquire now. There are almost never SE ethernet cards on ebay (especially ones with both pieces intact), whereas there are almost always localtalk ethernet bridges.
I know, they are certainly not common these days. I'd venture to guess that it'd be cheaper to find one for an SE than an SE/30, though. I was just fortunate enough to come across one.
What make/model is yours? I'll fire mine up and see what I have... who knows, maybe we have the same card.
Hmm, bummer, I just took a look at mine and it appears that I have an Asante card of some sort. I also confirmed that it DOES in fact work in System 6 - it shows up as AppleShare Alternative in the Network control panel. I connected to my G3 and transferred files back and forth. I do not have any specific Asante extensions active, just the standard Apple stuff. I wonder if perhaps just adding those to your system folder will make it work? I can get some specifics as far as exactly which extensions and what versions if you need.
No idea if mine works in System 6. Works great with 7.1. With 4MB of RAM, I have zero intentions of ever running System 6 on that Mac again. The lack of Disk Copy 6.3.3 support (and thus the ability to mount disk images to the desktop) is a deal break for me.
