Ok so my Studio display started arcing and sparking like they all do, so I got a new flyback from Technotronic Dimensions. Nice fellow. I got it installed and it looked glorious! For about 10 minutes.
Then it collapsed vertically and horizontally into 3 dots. After turning off the CRT, letting it all cool down and turning it back on, the only life I get is a green power LED with 3 amber flashes at regular intervals. I have replaced the Horizontal output transformer (it had shorted out completely), the damper diode, and a few of the high voltage capacitors. None of the other caps showed signs of damage, and all the ones I tested with my LCR meter (before I forgot to discharge one and blew up my LCR meter) were within 10% of their ratings, about as accurate as that meter gets.
after mussing with all that and some more parts shuffling, the behavior is the same. There is also no high voltage coming up on the neck board. During all this I was in contact with Steve from technotronics, and he suggests that the new flyback might have failed from being driven too hard (I was using an Xbox 360 at 1600x1050 as a test source). Before I get another flyback (paying more than double what I paid for the monitor, *again*, I thought I’d open source the question to those with more wisdom than I.
I'd really like to save this monitor, it's a perfect match for my Mom's old Sawtooth G4.
Thanks in advance!
edit to add: I didn't make it clear, but I'm also looking for an HR 46162 flyback if anyone here has an extra, or was going to replace their studio display flyback and decided not to, etc etc etc, I'm perfectly willing to pay reasonably for it.
