Snagged a pair of SE/30's yesterday!

I've spent the past week or so attempting to coordinate with a gentleman who had listed a pair of Macintosh SE/30's on our local Facebook Marketplace. His listing included a few basic pics, with a title reading "Vintage mc computers" and a description that lacked virtually any useful details at all: "Old mc compute, no power cord." (both quotes are exact copy/pastes)

The seller would only reply to messages with a single word, so arranging a meetup was... not easy LOL. Nevertheless I persisted, and we finally synced up yesterday. The meetup spot was a storage locker at the far end of a dead-end alley in a somewhat sketchy part of town so I definitely had some second thoughts when I pulled up, but thankfully he was friendly and helpful in person. He shared that both "Mc" computers formally belonged to his father in law before he passed, so his wife had asked him to make sure they found a good home. That's me!

Other than a bit of menu-bar burn on the CRT's, they both appear to be in decent condition. The more yellowed of the two has some ominous rattling / clanking sounds inside, so I suspect that its hard drive sled might be loose, and of course, I'm just hoping that neither of them are battery-bombed. I don't see any signs of corrosion on their ports at least...

The irony is that I picked them up late yesterday, and now I have to go out of town for a week - I won't be able to crack them open and see how bad things are inside until next weekend at the earliest! Oh well, I'll just have to enjoy the antici....

...pation. :)

Oh man, this kinda thing almost tempts me to go back to Facebook......... nah. :)

Can't wait to hear about how they look inside!

I tried to message the seller several times on marketplace to buy these but kept getting "oops your message couldn't be sent". I figured one of us must have been in fb scam jail or something. Sounds like the transaction went about like I expected it would, hope they're worthwhile!

He was really nice in person, but OMG he was very difficult to text with. I’d ask a simple question like “what address should I navigate to?” and he would reply with “Sure.” He also rescheduled our meetup three times *after* my wife and I had begun the ~90 minute drive to meet him, so I was honestly right on the edge of just giving up - thankfully it worked out in the end!

This sounds exactly like somebody else I was trying to buy some Macintosh manuals from on FB marketplace recently. I messaged that I wanted them, I could pick them up today or whenever works, let me know. Three days later, at 1am, they replied "do you still want them?". I said yes, then three days later again around midnight they replied again "ok you'll have to come get them". Forgettttit, they're still listed, altho I noticed they tripled the listing price, heh.
