SE/30 boots to mouse cursor but no boot chime

Does sound work out of the headphone jack? On my SE/30 the no startup chime or sound issue was due to a cracked solder joint on the analog board -12v, this thread got me on that path:

The 4 caps in the area of sound chips had to be clean and good solder job.. clean and shiny solder. Other than that, not sure if your sound chips traces checked out.
Sound chip traces all checked out with a multimeter. Here’s the recap job. Think I need to redo them?

Oh thanks for the tip. I’ll check voltages

No sound out of the headphone jack at all but I’m not sure the iPhone wired headphones will work for this test.
I do have proper voltage at the board including -12v

So the system freezes when I plug in or unplug the headphones while the machine is running. If I plug the headphones in while the system is powered off I don’t get a boot chime but audio from the headphones is nice and loud.

I think there is logic to detect a headphones which disables on board sound, maybe the headphone jack is bad? Maybe the jack needs Deoxit cleaning or replacement? De-solder it and see if on-board sound works?

(By the way iPhone wired headphones work just fine with my SE/30)
