the floppy drive looked like a 1.44mb drive.

The 800k and 2M (1.44M) Sony drives look pretty much the same... yours [F51W] is an 800k. The 2M/1.44M Sony drives are "71" not "51". Also, I'm pretty sure that IWM *is* an IWM. I looked into upgrading my II to FDHD at one point, but could never find the correct "SWIM" chip that fit the smaller socket in the II. The best source is probably lifting one from a IIx 'board - if you can find a basket-case / donor.
