I got some time to get the Portable fixed up. Now with 4MB of RAM and a 50 pin SCSI drive. I ordered the middle display piece from techknight which should be here soon.



I also picked these up for $15 each (no power supply). I am interested in selling them if you do at least a one pass erase on the drive when you get them. The yellowing is a little worse in person. PM for details.

SSD drives killed off Raptors because of higher speeds and low noise.

People used to go to large LAN parties with their rigs and play massive FPS games so they started to show them off. I guess if you spend $5k on computer guts you want other around you to see the insides. I have a couple nice old gamers towers, one of which is a Thermaltake Xaser series with plexiglass on the side and a big Thermaltake logo in front that lights up. Those towers are full of fans (old obsolete 80mm type) that are temp controlled and take E-ATX motherboards (the reason I wanted them).

The Portable goes pretty well there. Not sure where I am going to put the Mac TV (if I ever come across one)!

Today's most notable yard sale finds. The iSight was $15 and the vintage receiver was $7 with a printer included.

Might I add that these receivers don't come up often? This was the first I have found after years of yard sale searching.

The iSight looks new, or put back in the package very well.

Tested the receiver, works great! What should be done to keep it in top shape? Recap? Probably, but what else?

Use the receiver? Of course! I've just never restored one of them before so I'm not sure exactly what to do.

I have rebuilt one of those Technics receivers before. Had a blown output stage, quite common on these.

I have recapped the receiver as well as the tape deck and they both sound great! I sold the printer for $10 making the receiver free + $3. Caps for the receiver were $40 though...

Re: Velociraptors -- I still have 2 of them; a 150gb and a 300gb. I used the 150gb in my Mac Pro for years as the boot drive, before SSDs really started to become affordable. The performance boost vs. 7200rpm drives is VERY noticeable. I never had a problem with noise with either of mine. 

I acquired a 2007 24" iMac from work - it had a blown PSU and they were just going to recycle it. I bought a new PSU and replaced the stock 320gb drive with the bigger Velociraptor and it really scoots. A 300gb (or thereabouts) SSD is still a little pricey for my liking, so I'll stick with the Raptor for now. 

I need to find a use for the 150gb - maybe if I come across another iMac sometime...

At $55 this doesn't seem too bad. Probably not my best purchase, as it seems a little newer and a bit cheap.

What do you guys think?

No CD means probably early to mid eighties, might not be bad. The media formats on that are all fairly modest, no serious digital processing going on there.

I googled the model, nothing but people who sell belts. Shouldn't be hard to find one then, huh? Just no information about the unit itself.

Got this at an estate sale. They wanted $30 but I went on the last day a few hours before closing and got it for $10. Looks very well taken care of!

I should probably be concerned about the batteries though!
