macclassic
I've just noticed that the startup bong on my 6100/60 has got quieter! If this is caused by caps can someone please tell me which one's ? Edited November 16, 2013 by Guest
Ike
Could very well be the logic board caps, however, the 9600 also is very quiet when starting the first time without a PRAM battery. How is the rest of the sound volume after startup? It's always a good idea to recap the board anyway, as the leaky caps will keep on doing more damage when they keep leaking. macclassic
The other sounds are good it's just the startup bong and this was a new board* a few years ago. Can I find the Bong with ResEdit? *the original had an irrepairable video socket problem.
macclassic
Just remembered, It's got an L2 cache card fitted and I think I had to install some fix with this cache but can't remember what it was?
LCGuy
The startup "Bong" is burnt into ROM and cannot be found in ResEdit.
uniserver
my 6100 still has original caps, i don't think they are leaking yet… but they are domed at the top. I am thinking these old powermac's are going to all need re-caps soon , as the years roll on.
