Hi, I'm new to this forum as a signed user, but I've read a lot of forum's postings due to my interest in SE/30 I would like to hear your opinion to a problem that I'm facing with my SE/30 and Daystar Turbo 040. First let me tell you the upgrades that my SE/30 has. I have replace the standard hdd with an Apples 2GB scsi. I put 8 x 16MB simms so total ram is 128MB I replace the power supply with one from Stratos The first card in the PDS slot is an Asante Ethernet. The second card is a Daystar Dualport iisi, which with a paper clip i have connect pi

I had my SE/30 running for only about an hour today (to test my Xceed PDS video card with an external VGA 17" display) and I pulled the motherboard to take some photos of my ROMinator II Mega. My hand touched the top of the CPU and FPU and quite nearly got burned. It's rather surprising these chips don't need to be heat-sinked. They was a huge amount of heat coming off the board. Just holding my hand above the board I could feel the heat flow up. How hot are these chips allowed to get?

In 1991 DayStar's lineup of Cache cards came in two flavors for two Macs; the FastCache & PowerCache for the IIci & IIsi. Eventually DayStar produced the Universal card (P33) and that worked in many other Macs with appropriate adapters. This manual covers the early generation of Cache cards. Scanned in hi-resolution and OCRed for your retro-pleasure. The manual is version 1.1 dated 8/1991. It is up on Archive.org.

I have been playing around with my new SE/30 with a Daystar SE/30 Powercache for the socketed motherboard, and I have a few questions about what is needed to run it. I have OS 7.5.5 on my computer, and I installed the Daystar Power Central v1.3 control panel, which is the only one I could find. I should be using v2.2 with OS 7.7 according to this: http://lowendmac.com/daystar/pages/dsd_products/support/upgrades/faq_03040.html Does it matter that I am using v1.3 and not v2.2? I am considering installing OS 7.1 instead, as I prefer it. Plus I managed to snag a IIsi rom on ebay fo

"Scientists were so preoccupied with whether they or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should" In all seriousness though, has anyone ever attempted to put two accelerators in an SE/30? For example, a socketed powercache and a turbo 68040: I have no particular desire to be the first to attempt it as I don't want to see two extremely valuable parts go up in smoke, but my understanding is the Turbo040 can be enabled / disabled in software, so if this configuration worked electrically & in drivers, you could have the best of bot

Hello! Just bought a āTwinSparkā cache Adapter from Stratos Technology, to my Daystar Universal Powercache 33 MHz (MC68030FE33B), for use in an SE/30 (of course). After installation Iām able to boot up once (with Power Central installed), with system 7.1 running Apple diagnostics and Power Demo (without problem), then after 10 minutes the system freezes. After reboot the sequence freezes again when loading Power Central. Iāve been able to get the same result with two different logic borads! Is this a typical incompatible problem between the TwinSpark adapter and older versions of t

I recently acquired a brilliant DayStar catalog dated July 1994, and it has lots of great info. Here is a PDF copy for fellow DayStar lovers.

This is my collection of Daystar 030 accelerators: All share CPU part number MC68030RC50B. Only one has the coprocessor PN MC68882RC50A. I'd like to add the missing chip to both that don't have it. These seem readily available on Ebay... Do I just need to acquire 2 of these MC68882RC50A and install with pin1 in the proper orientation? THx!

Hello, I found your forum while trying to research a Daystar Card I have I believe it is a 68040 Daystar card in a PDS adaptor card but would like to confirm and get more info. It was pulled from a IIsi. I understand that some of these are more rare than others, so wonder what particular model I have. I have seen a few of these up on ebay. If a particular photo angle would be more helpful please let me know. I also have 4 4 MB SIMMs pulled from the same IIsi Finally along with a bunch of software installer disks

Recently got a IIsi and finally cracked it open to find this lovely and strange card, there is no marker of what model it is. I am thinking dual PDS adapter similar to the SuperMac one that shipped with Spigots. Anyone have more info?

I picked up an SE/30 with keyboard and mouse off kijiji today. The seller was a young guy, and wanted CAN$140 for the thing. The ad said it was upgraded with a 2GB and worked great. I noticed it had an Ethernet card and looked clean and in nice shape, so I decided to check it out. The guy said it was a gift and he had no use for it. After giving it a test run I bought it, and of course the first thing I did when I got home was open it up to check the condition and look for a maxwell bomb that might need diffusing. Not only did I find that it was beautiful and clean inside, it had been recappe
