Gamer choosing betwen 10.4.11 & 10.5.8
winterlight posted a topic in G3/G4/G5 Power Mac, iMac & eMac
Hi guys, Here's a scenario that only the experienced gurus of the Mac Liberation Army can answer. I'm using a Quad core G5 for games that span the old Mac Classic all the way to Mac OS (10.4-ish) I'm stuck between two setups for the G5: 1 - Mac OS 10.4.11 using Classic mode and playing games that only support up to 10.4 2 - Mac OS 10.5.8 supplemented with Mini V Mac and Sheepsaver to play all games up to Mac OS 9.01 and then OS 10.5.8 for the rest I've been told that OS 10.5.8 has some optimizations for the G5 that 10.4.11 doesn't BUT I've also been told that the- 17 replies

Hi guys, I'm trying to install Mac OS 10.4 on a Power Mac G5 (11,2) The install disc I'm using is a 10.4 Install Disk with Xcode 2 that I bought from eBay. When I try to boot from the DVD I get a kernel panic. The kernel version is Darwin 8.0.0 I then tried to boot into Safe Mode where the topline error is "Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerMac11,2" Looking further on eBay it appears that nobody differentiates versions of Mac OS that are compatible with the 11.2 hardware revision for the G5. When I try to boot into single user mode I get a kernel panic again.

Made a few breakthroughs with Arduinos on a G4 with OSX 10.4. The Arduino site has an older IDE which still works on G3 & G4 OSX Macs. But there is a problem with some Arduinos made in China and sold on various sites like Ebay for under $10 (even lower than $5!). Most of them have their BootLoader missing. This is a simple fix, but it requires a working Arduino like the Arduino Uno R3 with a working Bootloader. See this webpage on how do do it: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Burn-a-Bootloader-to-Clone-Arduino-Nano-30/?ALLSTEPS But this does not fix the problem totally. Ther
