  1. Man, laptop refurbsRUS. Love that 100 tho man, the one that got away...
  2. Oh this wasn't really a steal but... Airport Extreme 4th Gen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/232263227475?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I wanted to post this incase some people didn't know, but: They have these "Mesh" WiFi routers called Eero and they are like $500 and you get 3 units, that bridge in their own special way, meshing. Honestly tho, on a budget, and lowendmac style, you can get an Airport Extreme 4th Gen or 2nd Gen, for basically $25 a piece shipped! But here is why a 68Kmla cat, might want to do this. WPA, WPA2, WEP, etc I fo
  3. So, I had my Quadra 800 sitting there with a dual boot OS one for 68K and the other for PPC (FAT), just in case I some day find an APMUC, well after a year of having an eBay listing followed one showed up! APMUC: http://www.ebay.com/itm/142291064628?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Just got it yesterday, opened it up, and put this sucker in, booted to 68K which it was running, went to Extensions Manager and loaded a group just for PPC, then I rebooted. I went to the PPC Control Panel, and turned on PPC. Shutdown the computer, counted to 30, then rebo
  4. Man, I used to have one of these, but it was plastic, I just found two of these bad boys, and now all of my machines can be connected. Off the last port on my 8 port switch, I got 3 machines in a daisy using these, YES! Farallon EtherWaves! Two of them (metal versions): http://www.ebay.com/itm/172401536140?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT So, I go from, last port on the hub, to Quadra 800 to Quadra 840 to either PowerBook 520/520c (with an Asante), closing the path. So happy! They work well...
  5. Man you guys are DEEP in here, the only person I saw out in the wild (on other non-retro forums) was the White Falcon. You guys are hardcore! This sounds cool I want to enter my rigs into this comp, I am finishing them up, and they are solid. (my thing is I pretty much locked down all the retro I can handle, and I am doing great now). I don't get into the "retro-diahrea" where you have just like boxes and boxes and retro-cable after retro-cable just jamming up closets and stuff, ok well yeah I guess I do have a couple garbage sacks with like 50 or so cables in each but, yeah it's ki
  6. Just picked this up as the final piece for my G3/266 legacy system: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mac-OS-X-Server-Version-10-2-NEW-Unlimited-Factory-Sealed-New-Old-Stock-/182065678586?hash=item2a63f5c8fa:g:9AQAAOSwNSxVPV-x 10.2 Server Unlimited, there's 1 left. Now I'll run ASIP 6.2 in 8.6 for classic and 10.2.8 server in Mac OS X! Yes!! There's one left too...
  7. Haven't got this yet, but I needed a 68k/PPC machine with WI-FI for the COUCH! http://www.ebay.com/itm/222063139186?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Got it for the Apple 40th Anniversary! Should be my last piece for a while. Too bad it's only 30GB and only 802.11b but it still boots 9.2.2 and will run 10.5 if needed when I can get around to getting a 60GB or 120GB SSD I am just going to run 9.2.2 and 10.4.11 with classic mode, and native 9, hopefully, till that lasts... if any one knows of a 802.11g option that would be cool...
  8. This was a pretty good deal: AsanteFast 10/100 Nubus http://www.ebay.com/itm/181777407542?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Drivers not needed in 9.2.2 or 10.2.8 and gets good speed...
  9. When you un-stuff the OT 1.3 folder put the folder right in the Hard Drive, i.e. at the Root of the Drive, Macintosh HD:"Install Folder", you can't have it on the Desktop or anywhere else, that one took me a while to wrap my head around too.
  10. wait how are you able to connect to the internet? goto macgui.com and type expander.
  11. Stuffit Deluxe 4.0 with 68k, Stuffit Deluxe 4.5 with PPC, have a copy of Expander 5.5 for your 68k to get thru the newer sits, and use Expander 6.0 for your ppc for the newer ones. I always use the older method to stuff myself. But bear in mind this is just preferences, but the 4.0 package is cleaner and most everything works unless you run into, newer archives, which if you use Magic Menu, it will just "wiff" and do nothing, but then you just drag to Expander! This is in my opinion the least buggy version and has the most features, you have to turn OFF SpaceSaver cause that will just chew
  12. Yeah, I figured I would at least be able to get 66MHz bus speeds tho around 40MB/s to 50MB/s, Not necc' 133MHz speeds tho, which was sad. But I will settle for 13.333MB/s I suppose, it's snappy. It's better than 2.5MB/s or 5MB/s... And the other thing is it's NOT GOING TO DIE, but if one CF does die, I will just get a replacement with NEW technology (the CF Card) thanks to Photographers of the world. And my machines will run forever, and that's what counts the most!
  13. I recently compared the speeds of two different CF Adapters PCI ATA 133 http://www.ebay.com/...eUAAOSwcwhVQZ6Z IDE Adapter (1) http://www.ebay.com/...7gAAOSwgQ9VrbWO SanDisk 64GB http://www.bestbuy.c...2&skuId=2037002 PowerCable(s) http://www.ebay.com/...I4AAOSw14xWL8Gk the this other adapter which stated UDMA: Addonics, IDE Adapter (2) http://www.addonics....s/adebidecf.php Long story short, even tho the Addonics states UDMA, I was only able to get less than DMA-33. The cheaper one from above, came in at around 3MB/s faster in 3 tests I performed.
  14. Maelstrom, although does anyone know where to find the "Doors" & Jim Morrison version? Thanks
  15. JP1 The jumper and the pins its on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Compact-Flash-CF-to-3-5-Female-40-Pin-IDE-Bootable-Adapter-Converter-Card-/291600987642?hash=item43e4c5f5fa:g:~7gAAOSwgQ9VrbWO JP1 when I wiggled the card out the jumper just bent 70° cause it hit the actual ATA Card. Maybe it works maybe it doesn't but at $6 an adapter and with my power cord situation, I just got another shipped out. Thanks for all the help man.
  16. Also, you just want to setup, a correct scsi id, with that seagate fake info, and "flash" the card. Put the card in and then use Apple HD SC 7.3.5 (modded) and initialize, and then go in and create your partition after initialization is done, you should see the drive mount on the desktop. Then you need to somehow copy the files over. Network? CD? make a RAM Disk, and install? something to that extent. If you don't have another drive, get Apple HD SC 7.3.5 (modded on a floppy) or maybe the 7.6 Apple HD SC will just see the drive and you can proceed with that. I didn't use the Apple HD SC f
  17. Wow ok what a day. So in frustration, I didn't get my dual power cable that I ordered, that will be here Monday, cause I had to slap the guy on the back of the head and say "Hey did you ship this yet?" Five minutes later he's like "Shipped - Tracking #". But I did have one Floppy Connecter - Molex, so I could do one drive at a time. Long story short I was an ABSOLUTE IDIOT. Guess what I did? I said oh, "Format Options -> Low Level Format, oh and Zero Data" why I have no idea! So crashing rebooting messing with the adapter and the card etc, I was like enough. So good thing
  18. Yeah, mine isn't that great either, other than the understanding that each feature is a rebranding of the other, in a sense per what kind of device. Meaning the CF card doesn't have built in TRIM, it has wear leveling. But you know, come to think of it, I bet you the wear leveling is built in the CF mechanism itself and is not OS or interface dependent. So, it probably could work, in theory. Meaning everything that gets written goes thru the CFs wear leveling process in order to be written. More research, but god I get sick of googling. There needs to be a better search engine.
  19. Yep, that's what I did. Was a little scary but eventually it broke off. But I have to say WOW tho, that's so not like Apple HA! I figured they'd be like, order this part also blah blah
  20. ah, thanks, I just didn't want to force the slitted cover that's on the wings card right now. I used to "force" things back in the dark ages. Learned too many lessons...
  21. I have a question, I picked up a Beige 56k Modem, for the Personality (Wings) Card, but when I went to install the card, I found out things were going to be difficult. I couldn't, with ease, remove the "key looking" plate where the Modem Jack ends up going. I thought I would be able to just take out the card and pop that out and put the modem in. Do I need some kinda special Apple Back Bezel/Panel Replacement for the modem upgrade? I checked the manual and there is no mention of replacing the plate, or popping off the slitted cover either. Anyone who may know of what is need to g
  22. Will I get Wear Leveling Support? if RAIDed? Yeah I figured I am going to have one with 8.6 (Telecom) and the other I will waste 10GB and put 10.2.8 and 9.2.2, and have a triple boot. It's only 10GB and I can still use the other 50GB for serving files... Oh and as far as performance, there should be a big difference between running at 66MHz and 133MHz, I suppose...especially with CF(SSD) speeds. I remember going from 66MHz to 133MHz with the Tempo Trio 10+ years ago and that was a HUGE difference. But using CF I hoping for even more, I mean I want some performance. But I will ha
