  1. Ok! We're off to the races! We have a contender with a clean, full computing experience. I like it!
  2. Overview: A common goal we all share on this site is to preserve older, vintage Macs. In concert with that goal, I would like to explore how a 13 year old iMac could be genuinely useful today. Award: None! This is just for fun. I am not sure what to expect in terms of responses to this challenge. As a result, I'm not sure how to determine a winner, or even if there will be one. I am open to suggestions. Reference Machine: Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 1.83 17-Inch https://everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-2-duo-1.83-17-inch-specs.html
  3. It looks like I'm not the only person with this idea. I was hoping I could use my ADTPro cable to connect to a serial point on a linux print server.
  4. I don’t have an ImageWriter. Any way to print? I’m wondering if I had a direct serial connection to a print server that could handle the printing... maybe I’m dreaming.
  5. Thanks. I am thinking I’ll probably sell the later iMacs at some point. I never had one, and my interests are more in 90’s macs. I had a Quadra 660 back in the day, paired with the 14” Audiovision monitor. I regret selling those. I’ll see if I can figure out what rev the original iMac is when I get home.
  6. Thanks. Any guesses as to the street value for each item?
  7. Thanks. I don’t really care about OS X. I think I’ll just get the OS9 iso and load a clean version of that.
  8. Thanks for the garden link. I found that last night, but I wasn't 100% sure it was the right one. How does the process work? Will restore disks 1-6 install everything back to factory fresh? Including dual boot with OS9? I'm confused why there is also an OS9 install iso. I've done zero research, so please forgive me for asking something I could probably figure out with a little searching and reading... I have the correct keyboard, and it is yellowed. I may try to retrobright it using this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8P1OVj0IcqY I also have the correct
  9. I picked up four iMacs and an eMac from a nice couple that didn't have space for them. I paid $200. They are in really great shape. Now I need to figure out what to do with them. Any suggestions? The iMac G4 will likely be my primary focus initially. I believe this model can natively boot OS9, but I don't think the hard drive is set up properly for dual boot. Hopefully I can find the install media on the garden. It doesn't have a mouse or the speakers, so I might start looking for those... 10. Hey Crutch, I don't mean to be a pest. Any luck here? I checked the garden, and it's still the zipped image files that I can't seem to get to mount.
  11. Glad to help. I couldn't get those images from the repository to work. I ended up finding 6.0.8L elsewhere on the internet. I actually prefer System 7.0.1 on my Classic II. It boots very fast. I couldn't get AppleShare on 6.0.8L to work with my OrangePi linux server running Netatalk for printing and networking. In my opinion, using an Asante adapter to connect to Netatalk is by far the easiest way to get new apps on the mac. I've also maxed out my ram and put in SCSI2SD adapter. Glad you're Classic ii is running. Be sure to post a picture when you've finished with the retrobrighting.
  12. Are you using 6.0.8L? The regular 6.0.8 won’t work.
  13. Looks like some potential screen burn in. I hope not. Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.
  14. So it took me a while to locate a copy of 6.0.8L. I can't believe how fast it is! My first Mac was a Classic II, and I've never used anything prior to System 7. There are a few things I don't understand: I have an orangepi running netatalk and acting as a file and print server. My orangepi is not showing up in the chooser in 6.0.8L. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what... I'm assuming that System 6 has networking, right? The default install did not include AppleShare. I copied over AppleShare and AppleShare Prep from the install floppy. I don't know wha
  15. LaPorta, Crutch, and MuOn, Thanks! I've already downloaded a few. I'll also get System 6.08 running on a partition.
