  1. I am looking at some B&W G3s as possible replacements for some of our beige G3 units. Everything I have been finding is updated to OS 9.2 and/or OS X. I have a vague memory of updating a machine (don't remember which series) to OS 9 and getting a warning message that if I did so, firmware updates would be installed that would prevent me from going back to OS 8.6. I have never had a B&W G3 to work with or on, so I know it wasn't one of them. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could "regress" one of the B&Ws if I bought it?
  2. Hello, So I would like to be able to burn CDs from my iBook G3 dual USB with Firewire 400 port running OS 9.2.2. Will any Firewire 400 drive work or will only specific ones work? Thanks
  3. Hi guys, I just bought a Power Mac G4 which according to wikipedia can use the universal install of Mac OS 9.2.2 -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_9#endnote_A1 (I have the PowerMac G4 (quicksilver)) I installed the OS fine but once the installed OS boots it freezes. It seems like this is because the OS is not actually compatible with the hardware. According to the page below even universal install images have a special procedure to install as a universal install (which is totally confusing to me) https://discussions.apple.com/thread/936301?tstart=0 I downloaded the image from here https://www.macintoshrepository.org/126-mac-os-9-2-2-universal-2013-edition- Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? If I need a machine specific version does anyone know where I can find a Mac OS 9 image for a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver) [not the 2002]? Thanks again for your help guys.
  4. Hi all, I'm new here and I'm fairly new to Macs, so I apologize for any things I might not say or do correctly in advance! I also apologize for asking you all this newbie tech support question haha. I bought this barely used iMac G3 from someone on EBay a while back, and it came with OS 9.2.2. I am trying to install OS 10.3 on it. It has 128 MB RAM, 10 GB storage and is an grape slot-loading model. I came across Panther full install 3 disk CDs from a friend but they were copied disks of the originals so there wasn't any labels or information on the disks. When I started the installation from within OS 9 and when a window prompted me to click the "Restart" button to begin the installation process, I did. It restarted and a light grey screen with the dark grey Apple logo appeared, along with a loading circle. I waited for about 10 minutes and it was still doing the same thing. I tried restarting it while holding down the "C" key and it did the same thing. That time I waited an hour and still no luck. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Any advice is appreciated!
  5. I went to the Goodwill thrift shop in Columbus, NE when seeing a friend I made at Anime Nebraskon, and my wife and I found several things we wanted. I got several games including Oddworld (PS1 game), and several PC games, but I got a perfect in box (maybe installed once?) Diablo II BattleChest with LOD: Expansion pack and keys and strategy Guide. I also found a CD copy of Sim City 3000 for the Mac. I didn't know it was for Mac OS until I got it home and went to install it on Windows 98 SE. Is this rare? I looked on eBay and can't find a single copy of Sim City 3000 for Mac OS. I only found Windows (and I think playstation or something). The game disc is in perfect condition, has a key code (i think) and the case is in good condition. It wasn't in box but it works. Recently I got a Pentium 4 1.5Ghz with 256MB RAMBUS (I upgraded to 512MB last week) Dell Dimension 8100 which I am turning into a multi-OS system to play old games (Transport Tycoon/Deluxe, Monopoly, Several other games, probably Diablo II as well). So I am working with that for other games. I have yet to haul out my G3 Beige to play either Diablo II (more likely to leave that on the Pentium 4) or Sim City. My back is messed up so I can't lift the desktop to set it into place. Probably sometime over the next month I will do it and let you know what I think. The last time I played Sim City it was Sim City 2000 (which I still have a copy on CD with Urban Renewal Kit) and that was maybe 10 years ago? Whatcha think?
