  1. Hi guys, Here's a scenario that only the experienced gurus of the Mac Liberation Army can answer. I'm using a Quad core G5 for games that span the old Mac Classic all the way to Mac OS (10.4-ish) I'm stuck between two setups for the G5: 1 - Mac OS 10.4.11 using Classic mode and playing games that only support up to 10.4 2 - Mac OS 10.5.8 supplemented with Mini V Mac and Sheepsaver to play all games up to Mac OS 9.01 and then OS 10.5.8 for the rest I've been told that OS 10.5.8 has some optimizations for the G5 that 10.4.11 doesn't BUT I've also been told that the universal binary for 10.5.8 runs slower than 10.4.11 which is still PPC oriented There are some issues with Classic mode also: can't mount a CD that Classic Mode games can see, for example If any1 has any experience with this that would be great. BTW, the G5 has - Quad Core 11,2 hardware - 16GB of RAM - SATA III SSD (I understand the G5 doesn't have a SATA II interface though) Please let me know what you guys think.
  2. Hi guys, I'm trying to install Mac OS 10.4 on a Power Mac G5 (11,2) The install disc I'm using is a 10.4 Install Disk with Xcode 2 that I bought from eBay. When I try to boot from the DVD I get a kernel panic. The kernel version is Darwin 8.0.0 I then tried to boot into Safe Mode where the topline error is "Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerMac11,2" Looking further on eBay it appears that nobody differentiates versions of Mac OS that are compatible with the 11.2 hardware revision for the G5. When I try to boot into single user mode I get a kernel panic again. Can anyone let me know what I can do? Is there a special version of 10.4 I can use for a G5 with 11,2 hardware? Two incidental things: 1 - I'm using a 256GB SSD as the HDD, it is unformatted. I've tried both Bay A and B. 2 - I'm using a non-Apple USB mouse, not sure if this has anything to do with this. BTW, I'm trying to do this so that I can use Classic Mode to play games on this thing. Hope you guys can help this poor Mac-noob!
  3. Made a few breakthroughs with Arduinos on a G4 with OSX 10.4. The Arduino site has an older IDE which still works on G3 & G4 OSX Macs. But there is a problem with some Arduinos made in China and sold on various sites like Ebay for under $10 (even lower than $5!). Most of them have their BootLoader missing. This is a simple fix, but it requires a working Arduino like the Arduino Uno R3 with a working Bootloader. See this webpage on how do do it: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Burn-a-Bootloader-to-Clone-Arduino-Nano-30/?ALLSTEPS But this does not fix the problem totally. There is a missing driver for a CH341 USB to Serial Chip some of these Clones use. This is true for both Windows and OSX. The file can be found for Windows. I have it on my friend's site as a back up and easy access. Installing the driver fixes this and the Cheap Chinese Clone Arduinos are now useable under Windows! But finding it for Mac OSX (Intel or PPC) is almost impossible. I have yet to find it. If I could find it, I believe that it would with the older Arduino IDE on OSX 10.4 and the G3 & G4. I've googled for the driver and only seem to find the Windows version for it. I've seen a couple of Linux link entries but did not get them as they are most likely for Intel and I need it for PPC. Anybody has any idea or experience on this? Much thanks.
