    Quadra 605 No Power

    Awesome, thanks for the follow-up!
  2. Can't make this Macintosh related, but... I really wanted to show it off, I found an R550 on Yahoo Auctions Japan for 1300 yen. A while back, I had found a MC/R450, which is the same thing but with extra software installed, but someone had attacked it's motherboard with a screwdriver for some reason and it was totally dead. And when I got this R550 it had screen damage. Luckily for me, no harm had been done to the R450 screen nor ROM, so I swapped them over and it ran fine! Of all NEC Mobile Gear II devices, which are MobilePro devices but in Japanese, the R450/R550 are the highest specced and the last made, with a 168mhz MIPS CPU and 16MB flash memory in addition to 32MB RAM and 65k color. Unfortunately the 65k color screen is even more terrible performing than the 256 color one, but it's still nice for wallpapers. Here's a picture of it running Puyo Puyo, a popular old game but I've found the CE version to be very elusive:

    Quadra 605 No Power

I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree, and I can't speak to this specific PSU, but on the SE/30 PSU I had one with dead fast switching transistors - I don't remember what exactly they were anymore with my memory these days, they might have been called simply "transistors", but it certainly seems like a point that could fail.

    web browser

That's likely to be how it is my dude. It'd be cool if someone could create a web service that loads pages in a server and translates them to something that older browsers could at least render part of the information.
  6. That looks incredible! Considering a Mac has weaker graphics for games than an Amiga, what kind of hardware would we need for it to run like in the video?

SE/30 Xceed greyscale adapter cloning thread

Personally, I only want internal grayscale and the only modification I'm comfortable with is one that keeps the original motherboard and CRT.

Performa 6200CD needs an ethernet card

If you get a comm slot card, lemme know how you get it running. I've been unable to get the one in my 6230cd to work. I have a spare as well, but I just don't know if it works...

New member buys a macintosh se/30

They can and will fail without leaking, but if you can't see damage, then they're not destructive.

SE/30 Xceed greyscale adapter cloning thread

While I agree with you, I wouldn't be willing to pay $700 for a clone card with no out of production parts in it.

Wish we could get one for $80 today.

SE/30 Xceed greyscale adapter cloning thread

Well, let's not get too excited if we don't even have anyone willing to do the work yet. Unless Maceffects wants to do it, in which case I'm sure we could raise enough for the proposed reverse engineering.

SE/30 Xceed greyscale adapter cloning thread

Oh, I see. Considering the SE is portable, I imagine duplicating the video it has would be more useful than giving it new, more varied video output abilities for the purpose of tying it down to a second monitor. And as far as I know a way already exists for duplicating the internal video, so it's a comparatively short hop.

Doesn't the original card have external video? I'd absolutely pay for a device that simply gave grayscale ability to the SE/30, but if the original had color video out then I'm not sure it's feature creep. I think grayscale is the most important though, if we could just do that it'd be nice.
  15. When I shipped a Performa 200 and it was cracked in shipping, I gave a full refund. Didn't really find it fair though - I wish I could have given more like half. I think my packing was very ample, but I'm even more careful now than I was then.

    Mac IIci capacitor damage

I had an SE30 that didn't work after a recap and did work after another washing. It also had a bad stick of RAM.

PowerBook 150 - screens all destroyed?!

I also have issues getting it to start up, but I don't have a good battery, so it has issues booting with AC as well. There is a DC DC board inside with two electrolytic through hole capacitors that just might be at fault - when I have time I'll replace them and report back. @Johnnya101 has a recapped DC-DC board, perhaps he can report as to whether or not that affected booting. I replaced his board caps, but not mine what can I say, it's hard to justify doing it for myself.

Wow, you're a very curious fellow. Thanks for such a thorough investigation of this issue.

Faith in humanity not restored but less damaged
  21. Yeah, you know what lengths we'd go to to salvage a Mac IIx. If it's as bad as you say then it's possible it's not worth it.
  22. I can probably help you with this board if you need it. I just got a spare IIci from the junk shop, but I haven't had time to look at the logic board yet. I can replace caps and clean boards though, anyways.

Thats awful. Stealing mail from porches is just horrific.
  24. How do I set up networking in Mac OS 8.5? I have a rather complex set up, but it works with my Windows computer. I have a modem, connected via ethernet to a router, connected via wifi to an extender, which provides an ethernet port: The only tool I have that I know how to use to test the network is Internet Exploder: Here are the control panel items I have available in this fresh install of Mac OS 8.5: Here are the settings I attempted to use. There was no "ethernet" setting, so I used the one called "PPP": The computer is a Performa 6230CD with a Comm Slot ethernet card, with the LAN cable plugged into the wifi extender. What do I do? How do I even start to poke around the network if all I have on the other end is an Asus router running Padavan Linux, a NAS, and a lot of Windows computers? My end goal is to connect to FTP servers from the Mac.
