In my Quadra 610. when I reboot I usually go check up on my Powerbook 520 in my room and thrift off and forget I am rebooting, then My mom comes storming in " Jeremy shut off your pink ****" So I am here to ask is there anyway to disable a cd from starting up after reboot? This is very annoying and I want it to stop!

i always keep a set of headphones or a headphone adapter around to cut off ALL sounds including the bootup sounds by plugging it into the jack. that's the best way to avoid **** when you want to boot in the midle of the night.

I'm not sure what OS or version of Quicktime you're running, but since QT3.0 (at least) you can switch off CD Autoplay in the QuickTime™ Settings CP.

1 PB 520c
1 Quadra 700
1 Quadra 800 (recently resurrected!)
2 Powermac 6100s

But QuickTime is what is controllling the sound system.

Go to the QuickTime Settings control panel, find the part that szays "AutoPlay" and make sure they are turned off.

Ahh...memories of cranking up the volume to a ridiculous level and forgetting to eject "Punk-o-Rama [volume 5, I think...]" the night before in my iMac, then booting it up one early Saturday morning...

One time I was at choir practice (back a couple of years ago...Da Good Olde Days), and i booted up an iMac 350 to mark the roll. Someone had left a copy of the school CD in the CD ROM, and as soon as the Finder opened, i and a few others got blasted away by the School Song blasting away through those Harman/Kardons!

I know this doesn't help much, but yeah, i say you should either disable AutoPlay, or every time you start up, press the eject button on your CD ROM, in case there's an audio CD in there.

Open the Apple CD Audio Player CP, go to Options, and turn off Autoplay.

I remember hearing those exact words when, after I explained to a room full of *nix techies what "SCSI" stood for, I had to back my info up by RTFM.
