Ahhh, look at that mighty behemoth! The 950 certainly is the Aircraft-Carrier of the 68k Naval fleet, where the 840av is the Battleship!

No, I used no grammar checker at all...

If you're refering to 'vice', maybe you should move to somewhere where English is the national language...

It's just 'vice'...

Back to the HTML: I still crack up when I read "don't use a hammer... don't attempt to crimp while in the drive..." I CAN'T believe I did that!

Actually, I'd say it's more of an LHA (Amphib). The Apple Network Server 700 would be more of the Nimitz-class holy-mother-of-god-it's-huge machine.

I'm thinking a pair would make nice end tables! *lousy freakin' PPC's! blech!*
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/network_server/stats/networkserver_700_200.html
but it's still an escort carrier while the
Quadra 950: battlewagon, huge, BIG@$$ guns, good speed, can refuel fleet auxiliaries like the,
840AV: cruisers, fastversatile, hard punch, lower displacement, and the
Quadra 630 series: Destroyers, big fleet escorts, fast, decent punch, versatile, disposable as compared to capital ships and the:
Microquadras: Frigates, some slower, some faster, but better suited to niche duties due to limitations of lower displacement and the,
LC PizzaBoxes: Destroyer Escorts: slower, simple, utilitarian, really rugged, versatile, and destined for for really hazardous, boring, slow convoy escort duty (K-12).

the earlier macs were from the age of wooden ships and iron geeks, as it transitioned into the age of steam and topped out with showboats like the USS Maine (IIfx) from ships of the line like HMS Victory (II series) except ironclad ringers like the Monitor (IIci). it all started with the oar powered galley (128k) and bi and triremes (512k and plus). the Constellation/Constitution class superfrigate (SE) was such revolutionary technology that it could outrun anything on the planet that it couldn't outfight in a standoff. it changed the face of naval architecture forever, starting the modern era and the pinnacle of sail technology, as refined . . . . . . to be continued

gotta find a link to the supercarrier that was based on a boatload of multiprocessing radius rockets and the (secretly licensed) SE/30 ROMs.

jt: taking things just a little too far™for a change!

back again: check out:

SkyLab

"As far as Mac Prototypes go, one of the most glorious I ever saw was the Radius 'SkyLab.' That was the development name for the project we were working on. Radius at that time was an early Mac peripheral manufacturer. We had made a Mac II accelerator called the Radius Rocket.

"The SkyLab was a server with 14 NuBus slots and a power supply so huge you could do arc welding on the side with it. It also had fifteen 3-1/2" drive bays, and four 5-1/4" drive bays (for CD ROMs or optical drives).

"The idea was for it to be a dedicated Image RIPer for graphic houses. It never happened.

now that, is a Nimitz class supercarrier! IMHO

JT, you have got to do a formal write-up of those Naval analogies for the site!

P.S. - I read about SkyLab, too, and it nearly cost me a good pair of underwear in the process!

Definiteley! We're always looking for something unique to put on the site (not that we ever do...)

JT, you've had a great idea for a feature article!

i thought it was a gag that i'd pushed way too far! I'm not sure how much farther i can really go with it, but i'll give it a look after i nail down the LINKS Project SOP, so that marchie can post that for an intro page (suggestions and criticism of the SOP draft are invited!).

Suggestions:
could we have a "url embedding" button added to the menu, i'm finally starting to try to use the menu buttons, i see you added a code tag button, but a <?> button and explanation of the (somewhat cryptic) menu buttons might help. i've refreshed myself out of WAY too many post entries (my count is suffering) by clicking the FAQ button. (can the FAQ be made to open in a new window by default, btw?)

and thanks for the compliment!

jt

Yeah, I suppose it's just one of those cool things you can do with a mac.

JT: If you hover the pointer over the button for a sec it should tell you what it does:
There's Bold, Italic, Underline, then Center, Link, Email, Code (monospace), Quote, List and Insert Emoticon.
