Sign here!

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/macos8x/petition.html

'tis a petition in the hope that apple may release these older (but still not free) OS's as downloadable, for us oldbies.

Not only would it help us with another OS we could all freely use for QUADRA 605's!!! (oh and the other ones too...), by putting the text "www.68kmla.com" in the "where did you find out about this petition" field, we'd be spreading the word even further.

Deceive! Inveigle! Obfuscate!

Not to get your hopes down, Dana, but Apple usually doesn't repsond to petitions (especially not online ones -but then again, does anybody?). Also, 8.1 and 8.5.x are really only a Hotline server download away.

P.S. - Yes, I did sign it anyway!

It's a feel good thing - keeps the quadras happy - and it's advertising.

besides, I had nothing else to do for those spare few seconds :D

I signed it but would like to say I think it will go the way of 7.5 after Apple drops the G3, there was never a G4 that shipped with 8.1 or 8.5 so why would they need it, any 8.1 and 8.5 cannot run on any G4 apple sells, not upgrades but computers shipped with G4 processorsm but I did sign it, we will see what happens in the later months....

Thats a possibility, and hopefully one that eventuates. Free platinum!. However apple's nonrelease of 7.1 (or 7.2? I don't use OS's around that age so I'm not too sure :D) and 7.6.1 are apparently due to proprietary technology included/embedded in the system. Thats the same reason I'd heard, that you can't just go download the full Quicktake software from Apple - it's got Fuji or... that other camera maker's tech innit.

dana (this is the most technically vague post I've done - and it's my third of the day. eeeee!)

Probably you mean 7.1 (or 7.1.2?), but that has the be the most pirated System version in the world...

You know, System 7.5.5 + "Hidden Finder Features" control panel + Appearance is a worthy subsitute or OS 8: but 8.1 does have that tasty HFS+ !

Ayup! Most of mine when they first arrive, get 7.5.3 and ~Aaron at least - HFS+ hasn't been too necessary as I don't have enough GOOD SIZED HARD DRIVES to need it. *ahem*. I'm settled now. No, really!

I tell you, Coxy, there's nothing like having a full-height, 23GB SCSI drive around for mass storage and space-heating!

Yup, not for long since jt gets one of them.

Mine is getting the A/UX treatment tho.

The 2 data aquisition cards that were in it are going into a PowerMac 8100 or the IIfx.

I wonder how many posts I have...
