Why do you have to turn on an LC 475 TWICE? You know, flip the switch, switch off, then on again?Fleet Covert Ops Padlock Magnet |

A 475? You shouldn't... sounds like there's something wrong with your baby there... all you should have to do is flip it on and it'll come on...GORDOOM Commander, Academic Operations Reserve (University of Toronto, St. George Campus) total Macs liberated: 14 (as of January 7, 2002) "...the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." |

That happens on LC475's and Q605's when the battery is not fully charged. Those motherboards require a PRAM battery charge to fire up the video circuitry - just one of the features Apple built into them - a dumb feature :P. When you turn it on, then off, there is enough residual 'poke' in the system somewhere, to start up the video normally. dana

All pizza boxes are that way...I had to do that with my first liberation, an LC II, before I got a new battery(you definitely need a new PRAM battery, raWr) -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- |

That's true...<unrelated> When I got it, the PSU had no switch! You had to turn it off at the wall! Since I couldn't afford a new PRAM battery, I ended up leaving it on the "It is now safe..." screen! ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit 68k Macintosh Liberation Army 00014 Macs liberated. |

Classic symptoms of a dead PRAM battery There is a utility around (i have it here somewhere) called "LC Up to Date" that can 'fix' the problem for you in regards to the date/time settings, but you'll still need to 'double click' the power switch to get the video working. Easier to get a battery... 68k MLA ParaMedic |

Yep, dead PRAM battery. It's funny how many problems can be resolved by replacing the PRAM battery! It's nearly a cure-all... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 Regular Disappear! |

As about everyone else has said, it's a dead PRAM battery. You will find that if you switch it on once and leave it it will boot anyway but without video. MY friend was bout to chuck his LC475 until I replaced the PRAM battery and revived it, it now lives in a heap under his bed, he insists on not taking the PRAM cell out before storing them - grrr....Anyway, as for LC models and PRAM trouble I recently got an LC in almost perfect condition apart from a dead PRAM cell, it ran fine without it but suffered the obligatory amnesia. -- Mark Benson Visit FlatPackMacs Online http://fpm.gotdns.com |
