I'm sure any of our members who frequent AppleFritter, AppleAddict (or Wired, for that matter) have already seen this, but I figured I'd post it for those of us who havenm't been around the block.

Feast your eyes on the iBong!

Yeah, it's a dumb article, especially the subtle (or not-so-subtle) mac-bashing toward the end. But, at least seeing a compact-mac used as a waterpipe is better/funnier than seeing one getting blown up.

Kind of ironic that all Macs startup with a 'bong' isn't it!?

there's a wheezy coughing alert sound too, but it's still nasty as either a hack or a houka, i don't think it's really a bong at all from the description. i can't believe anybody really bothered with the story other than a mention for general (warped kinda) interest. those guys are morons on top of being losers.

IMHO, of course,

Actually, I think I can be safe in saying that would be our collective opinion...

I guess I stand alone in thinking that the ibong was hilarious.

All this negativity towards drugs... attitudes toward drinking must have been like this during prohibition too. Funny that now you can't watch sports on tv without seeing commercials for beer.

Watch me start a fight with this one: To me, anti-drug people are just as much a product of irresponsible propaganda as were the anti-alcohol people who brought about prohibition.

In terms of their effect on the body and on society as a whole, there are some drugs considerably less harmful than alcohol. But drinking is somehow "ok" and drugs are for "bad" people.

Indy 500 winners and NBA champions appear on tv spraying each other with and guzzling champagne. What if Shaq or Michael Jordan lit up a joint after the game? Obviously they would be fined/suspended/fired. But why? Because society is ill-informed and its opinions have been warped by advertising propaganda.

By the way, I'm not a drug user, but I don't let that misshape my attitude towards those who are.

i laughed the first time i saw it too! after i thought about it i decided it was pretty stupid. check out fritter for my thoughts about the hack if you want, i made a couple of spec-revs™, over there in the process of criticising it.

<soapbox mode>
as far as the war on drugs, i can't think of any bigger waste of resources! spend the money on helping people get off drugs instead of making drugs seem more cool to the impressionable with it. maybe they won't seem as cool when people realize how much patching up the damage costs society. but that's a minority opinion for now.

as far as "recreational drugs", i did my share of self-medicating with them for frustration with learning disabilities and a really terrible case of ADHD, which hadn't even been designated as such when i got out of college. thank heaven i never tried coke, back then it wasn't "addictive", but self-medicating with it DESTROYED many of my peers with ADD.

i wish i'd had the right drugs (prescription) in college. everybody thought i was crazy because i couldn't sit still and study in the library. my room worked for me, and art and sports channeled the wild side into creative/constructive pursuits for the most part.
</soapbox mode>

whatever, $.02 contributed!

I'd have to generally agree with what Trash and Mathgeek said. 'Responsible' drug use, no 'war' on drugs, help those who want to be helped......yadda yadda yadda.

www.ecstacy.org gives information for users and rehab without prejudice. A real 'there's the information - do with it what you will' kind of attitude that I find refreshing.

I'm not anti-drug, either, and I do think the iBong is funny. However I think the article is immature and unfunny in it's attempt to make a joke out of Apple (not that nobody has before).

I find the iBong a very interesting piece of engineering, and worth a tip of the hat.

now, as for My opinion on "drugs", it's two-fold:

1) depends on the drug
2) MODERATION, and appropriate use

Look at the history of the world, and you will not find a single religious doctrine that does NOT have a mtching history of drug use as a method of alterd perception, spiritual journey, or for connecting with a diety.

Natic Americans used any number of things, mushrooms, tobacco, peyote...

the Chinese used Opium and it's derivatives.

the Catholic church used to fill it's cathedrals and churches with the smoke of Opium during Mass.

Marijuana is has been used by countless groups.

Casual and obsessive drug use is, in my view, stupid. At the same time, I advocate for the de-criminalization of drug use. If one wishes to change ones perception, or even to damage ones body, they should be allowed, but not at the tax payers expense. Driving while high, absolutely forbidden.

there's a bit more I'd say, but I have to go. Back later I'm sure.
