well...not much else to say..spelling/grammatical errors corrected...some teeny-tiny layout adjustments...oh yeah...changed all "68k" to "68K"...if I am mistaken and the lower-case version is proper, somebody please let me know... well basically the site just looks prettier...more content shall be on the way (including forum topic introductions...) edit: almost forgot...added a couple new links as well and fixed the Apple links (grrr...they removed vintage Apple Spec and 75% of the user manuals...grrrr) If anybody has any links which I have missed, puh-leeze let me know. -------------------- Spellcheck/Grammar Bandit and beholder of: -the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -the HTML Keyboard of Greater Knowledge™ -Compact Mac Wand of Power with Shocking Flyback Transformer Tip™ -------------------- Edited by - FireWire is fast on 16 Mar 2002 23:16:03 |

Another comment from the peanut gallery...you know - it's mighty hard to try to maintain 2 sites (well...make that 1, I gave up on my personal site a while ago) and be a highschool student...this is the first time i've been able to do anything in a long time...but now spring break is here, so I have more 68K time...

I'm really steamed about that. They say they're coming soon, but I don't see why we should have to wait this long. How hard is it to move a few pages around? Well, to everymac we go...but, oh, no! I need to look up the vram configurations for the Q800! I only know the 512k options and the 1 meg options...what about 768k? What shall I do?! { candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |

I still have AppleSpec here for a limited time (2MB d/load) Does 68K MLA have enough room for a downloads section? I've lots of (freeware) software to add if you do.... (and some software of more dubious origins)68k MLA ParaMedic Edited by - Flash on 18 Mar 2002 02:28:43 |

Sorry to break it to you...the lowercase k is correct. 68k implies 68"thousand", 1000 being a metric kilo. The Metric system uses the lowercase k for kilo, and the uppercase K for Kelvin. SO unles this is the 68 Degrees Kelvin Macintosh Liberation Army, the lowercase is appripriate. In Computer Science, a kilo is always 1024, being a binary power, but that's obviously not what's going on here. Regardless, a kilobit is kb (your modem speed), kiloByte is kB (the amount of space your porm collection uses on your hard drive, although some may want to uses GigiBytes or GigaBytes for this), and some of the chips on your mobo are measured in kiloHertz kHz. ~Marchie PS: 68 Degrees Kelvin is 341.15 Celcius, or 646 Fahrenheit. If your processor ever get that hot, you're screwed. |

Kelvin doesn't have degrees does it - it's just 68 Kelvin... and 0 Kelvin is -273.15 (ish) degrees c... one kelvin = one degree C, so 68 Kelvin should be -273.15 + 68 = -205 degrees C which is kinda superconducting. I knew there was a reason 040's were ceramic dana (and congrats 'manda on the greenstar. woooo)

the Kelvin scale has degrees, but they are omitted in the notation: http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0827335.htmljt: googlesaurus-tuschie-retenticus-periodiridiculous

no, to go from Celcius to Kelvin, you ADD 273.15, not subtract...but either way, the small k is correct Edited by - amanda00 on 19 Mar 2002 10:31:13 |

i think you are misinterpreting the coversion process dana is describing which is actually the conversion of the Kelvin temperature value "68k" to the Celcius temperature value of "-205(ish) degrees C" but she is using the inverse of both of the values which would be plugged into the formula which you are describing correctly. the explanation for the relating the same value in both scales is actually more elegantly expressed in .txt as dana presented it. Had she been describing the conversion process the presentation of the standardized process as you expressed it would be a far more elegant approach.huh? wtf? well it made sense to me when i started typing anyway! you're both right, but you're just talking about different things! jt

update...site moved to http://homepage.mac.com/mla68k/index.htmlsome changes made...there were a heck of a lot of spelling errors on "Grass Roots" - I'm suprised that I / you people didn't catch them!..."© 2002 68k Macinosh Liberation Army" added to the bottom right of every page (somebody tell me if there is a page missing it)...i modified the index page a smidge...still working on "the liberated", forum intros and a how to (which will make an appearance on the index page in the near future... (new paragraph, that one got kinda dense ) Added some more links found in the forums (clock chipping homepage - how did I forget that one the first time around?, hardwarebook.net - thanks marchie!, that "quick and dirty mac/pc network" JT linked to somewhere is on too) hmm...thats all for now...keep your heads up for updates! *stands back, wonders if post is coherent* edit: changed link to the real new address...silly boy -------------------- keeper of the website and beholder of the Quadra/Centris Stick of Justice™ -------------------- Edited by - FireWire is fast on 22 Mar 2002 18:47:01 |
