...as soon as I learn HTML. Where do I go to do this? There are so many references, so many opinions, I have no clue where to start, especially since my free time is limited as it is...

Help? Please?

I would recommend grabbing a book on HTML 4, such as this one, which I learned from years ago. For the most part, it's going to give you a great start, and is fairly cheap to procure.

Other than that, grab a simple/free HTML editor like Netscape Composer (comes as part of the Netscape Communicator package, and is available for PPC or 68k), and make a few simple pages, then view the page source and take a look at what code does.

I learned a while ago from converting my anglefire page to HTML (there is [was] an option to convert the things you entered into their template)

my skills were honed attending an HTML at the cleveland institute of art...

Sounds good! Glad you are motivated. Here's my suggestion:

1) get a book on HTML
2) read a litle of it so you understand HTML theory
3) ignore it for the moment
4) Design your page in Netscape composer
5) read the code Netscape generates
6) ask any questions you want from us, ans ubmit anything you make!

Tall, there are good lessons on the Net, it's not necessary to buy a book.

one of the things that used to drive me crazy about the whole internet phenomenon was how great everybody said it was for getting information, but the shelves of programming books for it dwarfed the rest of the computer sections everywhere, still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but i'd DEFINITELY go the book route!
