I was just over at the thrift store next to my office and they have a Sony CPD15-SF1 in very good condition. I forgot to ask how much they wanted, but came back here and went online to check the specs. Wow! This baby can do 1280x1024! Pretty high for a 15".

I'm going to go back there and see how much they want. My Quadra 840av's Radius 24Xk can handle up to 1152x870, and my 7500's ATi XClaim 3D+ can do 1280x1024 easily. I'm just not sure if I want to switch from a 17" to a 15" monitor in order to get there. I guess 1152x870 on the Quadra would be nice!

I just hope they don't want too much for it. I have three eBay auctions to pay for today!

yah, it's great, on a 19-20-21 inch diagonal! MAYBE on one og the new 18" jobs, but not on your 17, forget the 15"

Sorry, JT, I've been scatterbrained, lately. I need to find some time to get over to the USPS to weigh the 'book. Go ahead and send the email stuff though, I think I cleared out enough to handle it.

Allright! They want $10 for it, which is pretty damn good for a decent little monitor. I don't have any money today, but they're holding it for me until tomorrow (though, the last time they held something for me, a Sun SparcServer 1000, they sold it anyway, and for five bucks!!!). It'll be going to my 840av, and the 840av's Apple MultiScan 15" will be going to my project IIci.

Whee!

Umm...i thought you said it was a SpacServer 1000...

Just kidding...

Truthfully though, good luck with your display. That really is one b**ching display, and would be perfect on the 840AV!!!!

Allright, I just paid for it, but don't want to put it in my car yet because of the heat. I'll pick it up and take it home after work. I'll post some pics and screenshots later tonight. Now if only I could find a Nubus video card that can do 1280x1024...I think the Radius Thunder IV GX models 1360 and 1600 (I can only find the 1152 model on eBay) are the only two that can do it. Unless anybody knows otherwise...?

Hmmm...I should have posted this thread in the 68k peripherals forum, but I forgot that it existed.

Okay, inevitably, I've got a problem.

I tried the Sony 15" first on my 7500. Very sharp, great color. However, I couldn't get it beyond 1024x768. I tried 1280x1024, but it wouldn't work, although I'm assuming it may have been because the refresh rate was too high. I couldn't try it at 1152x860 because my ATi Xlclaim 3D+ doesn't have that as an output setting. I figured what the hell, let me just try it on the Quadra 840av.

I hook it up, everything cool, but it won't go above 640x480! I mean, it doesn't even have any other options! It's locked at recommended and doesn't have an option for "all". What the heck... I wonder if it's because of the VGA adapter?

It's a generic female VGA to male Mac adapter. Aye carumba...I have an ATi brand adapter around here somewhere, I'll dig it up and try it.

Why the heck is it only giving me 640x480, when on the 7500 it was at least doing 1024x768 no problem??

Eh?

P.S. - still haven't figured it out. I hate to have the dig the Apple Multiscan 15" back out of the closet...

does your generic adapter have adjustable settings to tell the mac what resolution your multiscan diplay wants to be fed? if not, you need to get one with switches or a dial to configure the sense codes the mac reads at startup.

p.s. i just got the biggest kick out of that link, the font it uses is georgia and every lower case "c" displays as your chibawhatsis dropped out in a black field! (with the proper spacing for the hacked character) did you ever try that font?

The adpater doesn't have dip switches or any settings, but it may be the problem anyway. All the other adapater I have are the wrong type, though (male VGA to female Mac).

Haven't tried the font yet, no! I have to do that...

There's also some interesting info on monitor adapters here http://www.kan.org/6100/monitors.html, although specific to 6100s.

CC

Current score:

1 Apple //e
1 PB 520c
1 Quadra 800 (recently resurrected!)
2 Powermac 6100s

Yeah, I definitely have a feeling that it has something to do with the adapter, possibly that the adapter doesn't have DIP switches, or that it's hard-wired for 640x480 only. All the other adapters I have are backward, though. Looks like it's time to do an eBay search...
