The 4400 was a PC with an Apple logo on the front. Ugly case, expensive to upgrade (compared to other PPC's), and a crappy Tanzania mobo that many clones were based off of. A powerhouse, unfortunately, it is not.

Before I got my Quicksilver, a 4400/200 was my main machine. It uses EDO RAM, which has not come down in price so it's still expensive to upgrade. I still think the case looked better than most PCs, but not up to Apple's usual standards. I got it because it was cheap and I needed a computer. For those purposes, it was fine. It won't win any awards, but it's just fine for average college student use.

The only cheap upgrade on a 4400 is the hard drive, since it uses IDE. The RAM is around twice the cost of FPM RAM you'd use in a 7500/8500/9500 (etc), and the G3 card upgrades are about as expensive (or more so) as the ones for 6100/7100/8100's. It might be fun for a hack.

BTW - Coxy may close this thread, since it is about a PPC and all. I don't have access to, so I'm just riding it out.

<hardass>

68K a 4400 is not.

Therefore, the only place that is appropriate for this thread is either in our louge or MacAddict Forums' Legacy PPC section.

(this isn't even CLOSELY related to 68k MLA news...)
