I picked up a 605 with a 14" Color Plus display and keyboard/mouse for 10 bucks (not bad,eh?) at a garage sale Saturday. I brought it home, plugged it in and waited. For some reason it would get stuck at the happy mac face screen and then the hard drive (stock 160mb) made the same reading sound continously. So i pressed the little red reset button on the mobo, and zapped the PRAM a couple of times - both of which didn't do any good. I even plugged in my external 1 gigger and did the little command to bypass startup disk. It would still get stuck on the happy mac and the hd would read. Finally I got fed up and removed the HD, and stuck a completely wiped 160mb hd (same model drive, but from Performa 475) and booted from the external. All is well now...( i thought i'd just share that story with you...) but if anybody has any idea whats wrong, i'd love to find out whats on that seemingly broken hd

I'd assume that it may be the HD which has a hardware problem. i.e. it is irrepairable.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit 68k Macintosh Liberation Army (now with forums!) 00007 Macs liberated. |

yeah i know. The Hackintosh used to have one of those ProDrive ELS 160 meg thingies, and it bit the dust the way i've seen a lot of other ELS drives. By the motor dying. Something, somehow tells me that they used dodgy motors in those drives. Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 5 |
