Suggestion-

rename this forum compact macs.

Compact macs generally refer the form factor with the 9" b+w screen.
Granted- the SE/30 may not be considered "original" since it packed quite a punch- but on the other hand, an SE/30 mobo fits perfectly in an SE/ so it probably should be lumped with them.

Just a suggestion- that's all :)

Yes, but there are compact macs which aren't original!
What do others think?

BTW, whenever I see this forum I think Original Macs -> Original Macster/Original Prankster. Wierd.

how about "classic macs"? Compact has the problem that 5400s are all-in-one, and so was the ever-so-plasmic G3 all-in-one. And original suggests pre-Plus to me. "Classic" calls to mind the form factor of the 128k to SE/30, and by its name it includes the Classic, Color Classic, etc

Unfortunately, an SE/30 logic board does not fit perfectly into an SE case. At least not always. The power supply connectors are not in the same place on the boards. The PDS slots don't line up, either.

Compact Macs would be my preferred as well.

The LC/Performa/PPC All-in-ones that came later I have never heard referred to as compact, just as All-in-ones, as was the All-in-One G3 AKA Grey iMac with 17 inch screen

The SE/30 belongs in this forum, but came after the Mac II, and thus can hardly be called "original"

Nope- not a defector, just a forum whore :D

Regarding SE/30's- I have experienced the PDS slot line up problem. In fact, one of my SE/30's has an SE front but an SE/30 rear due to that problem (the tube went out on the SE/30 which is why I moved the mobo)

I haven't experience any power supply cable problems- I wasn't aware that there were multiple versions of the Power Supply for the SE/30 withy different cabling.

Any more info on that?

I think I'll designate a spot on my desk as "Compact Mac parking only"

Find a logic board from an original SE (800K drives) and SE/30 and look at them. The power connector isn't in the same place, it's slightly more toward the front on the SE/30. (I don't know exactly where it is on a Superdrive SE).

The hole in the metal frame the power cable has to go through on some old SEs is just big enough for the cable, and doesn't line up properly with the connector on the SE/30 logic board. I think most SEs have the larger hole in the frame, so usualy isn't a problem.

My old platinum SE doesn't even have the cut-out in the frame for a PDS card.

It was an 800k SE that I put the logic board into.
Well, in reality, I moved the logic board and the floppy drive. I took out the original hard drive, and didn't put another one in.

Maybe I moved enough stuff over and leaving the hard drive out made it a non issue?

It was quite some time ago.
