I have a Duo 230 in excellent condition, but I have part reformatted the hard drive, in a real screw up. My problem is that my floppy drive no longer works, so to reformat the hard disk drive I need to start from a cd. I bought an AppleCD 300 on eBay, but don't know how the Caddy system works. Anyone able to help? I have a Duo minidock and SCSI connector to the minidock.

Thanks

Stuart

DO yo have the plastic cadddy for the CD-ROM drive. If not, you will need to get one. Should be fairly inexpensive. Let us know if we can help on this...

You said that you had the SCSI connector to the Mini Dock - is this the cable with the square (HDI-45) connector?

First thing, google "gamba2" and download the user manual for your CD or any of the Macs from the era that should have illustrated direction on how to do it.

Second thing . . . LOL! . . . on the caddy opposite the arrow, there are two knurled corner buttons/tabs/levers you'll need to squeeze in toward the projecting tab of the clear cover in center in between them with one hand, while you lift up the clear cover tab with a fingernail on the other hand.

Put a CD in the caddy with the lable side up, snap the lid closed (squeeze the tab/levers when you close the lid so the caddy will last longer) and then shove the caddy side with the arrow into the slot.

edit: excellent point, Kami! I was assuming he had a caddy because he asked about it rather than wondering how to get the tray to pop out. One should NEVER assume ANYTHING when troubleshooting or giving instructions!

Stuart,

You may want to describe for us what the MiniDock looks like, or tell us the model number on it. I'm assuming it's the one that's just as wide as the Duo and has BOTH floppy (HDI-20 connector) and SCSI (HDI-30) on it.

And this is a longshot, but you could elaborate on the floppy drive problem as well. And finally, which OS you plan to re-install. Hopefully, we can cover as many solutions as possible.

You'll know if there's a caddy stuck inside the CD300's cuz the drive door would be partially open.
