Does anybody know weather a beige G3 will work with ECC SDRAM?

 Has anyone ever tried this?

Another thing: What other cases could a G3 motherboard fit into without hacking? Like could it fit a 8xxx/9xxx tower case?

Thanks.Go to Top of Page

No it doesn't.

I tried my PC ECC SDRAM in my Beige G3 and it wouldn't boot.

There are some sites around about this.

I had to track down some non ECC ram which was harder than I thought it would be.

Most of the PC stores near me didn't have it.

I'm pretty sure the "mini-tower" beige G3 should fit the 8600 case. They're very simular if not the same form factor.

And if you can't find an 8xxx/9xxx case, the Beige G3 mobo is a fully ATX compliant board, so it'll fit into a PC case, if you want it to.

It will fit in an atx case with no cutting and use a standard atx power supply with no hacking?

a) I believe that there might be a bit of hacking to get the mobo in, but not much. Either way, its about as close as you can get to being a full fledged ATX board

b) There is a jumper on teh motherboard labled "MAC" and "PS2". When the jumper is on PS2 (on minitowers it comes fresh from the factory set to PS2), you can just plug in any ATX PSU.

Okay, well I just got done typing a lengthy reply and the damn computer froze, so I'll make it short.

Thanks for the info. I was just about to buy 2 sticks of ECC SDRAM.

The G3 is in an ATX case right now but I hacked it wrong and the PCI slots don't line up right. That's why I'm looking for a MT. Also, the cheap little PC speaker sucks.

No. Try Googling around for the procedure. I think it's on xlr8yourmac.com.

Last I checked, they were around $15 w/o PSU.Go to Top of Page
