Cory's thread got me to thinking how cool it would be have 68kmla radio show. This is what I was thinking of 3 or 4 members connect up via the net to some voice conferencing software. We talk about some pre-decided topics. Then we put it on the web as a mp3 for download. The other member download and enjoy.

Any one else interested in doing this?

K-MLA, This one has been SUCKED DRY by me

That is to say, there is alot of great ideas

I didn't have that one though, it certainly beats just me trying to put a whole MLA program together

Other than the fact that I have dialup.... :-\

Maybe we could all record us saying things, and send it to someone who has an audio app, and compile it, and then stream it and/or make it available for download

The program I am thinking of using is an old freeware version of CUseeme. I plan of doing some testing this weekend. My ultimate goal is to come up with a system that will work dialup and run 68k systems.

I also have free nationwide long distance on my cell phone so I may be able to work up something that way also.

You could use shoutcast or icecast to run a MLA radio station.

The new version of Mpegdec can handle mp3 streaming on 68k macs and iTunes etc for PPC mp3 streaming.

I've found 22000Hz Mono 32kbps or lower is fine on a 56k dialup connection.

heh, well Let me just say, that I am glad to have inspired something so cool sounding

Another thing, which I'll maybe mention now, is that I've got the PC basically working, I think it'd be cool for me to have a video 68k talkshow, or a 68k show kindof like the screen savers, it would be very short per episode, it would be choppy and lowquality, and it wouldn't be live. It also would be in the Windows Media Video (WMV) format, so y'd need a PC, or VideoLanClient, or Windows Media Player to play it. Again, just an idea

It is going to take awhile to workout the technical ideas so I plan on progressing in steps.

First step is to have a prerecorded show.
Second it to have the show streamed live.
Third a live show that people can call into.

As for video maybe somewhere down the line.

Being that it is just voice we done need high quality. Low bandwidth is the key to making this work. I hope to be able to this in a 28k stream as it will make it possible to those on dial to be on the show. Plus my net connection is only a 128K ISDN so I don't have that bandwidth to work with either.

lol, good reasoning there

I think that streaming it is a good idea, but I personally would probably try to find a prerecorded version available to download (that's just me though).

I also agree the the live shows should be available for download.

Also the more I think about it have a person pre-record a segment and edit it in is also a good idea. Perhaps have someone do something about the history of a machine or something else that would be interesting. Kind of like Paul Harvey and his rest of the story bits.

Imma gonna have a seizure now, because Paul Harvey is one of the most *ANNOYING* shows on the radio...

It's ok at first, but he has those SAME stupid ads OVER AND OVER AND OVER and he's always sick and you wouldn't believe teh kinds of troubles it causes with the people on the bus...

(Let's just say that there are many people addicted to using the word idiot towards eachother)

Dunno, but it also seems as though having a MLA radio such as that, would also *VERY* take away from the MLAgazine, into which I have been putting so much blood and effort. I've gotten about five from here say that they're willing to help somehow, and only gotten anything at all from one, two *MAYBE* three people... And yet, of those three people, it would appear that more is coming, but even so, it probably isn't enough quite yet to fill a magazine. (It's not even superduper big or anything either, it's just that it has nothing in it)

Maybe an idea would be to put on the "KMLA" radio show after each edition of the MLAgazine is released (more of an incentive to do that!) and have it's content based lightly on that of the MLAgazine, but maybe 'enhanced' with actual discussion, question and answers, and voices.

*just a thought*

I do not want to take away from your efforts with the MLAgazine. I also don't want the "Paul Harvey" thing to be the main focus of the show. A few years back the slashdot guys did a show called geeks in space. That is the kind of format that I am wanting for the show.

Well it looks as if I got the technical aspects worked out. Best part is that I was able to get the stream down to 26k so the people on dial up should be able to take part also. Even better is that the whole process runs on 68k boxes. The client software is an old freeware version of CU-SeeMe. Here is how it works.

I have my Q800 running as the system that everyone connects to in the conference. I also have Apple's AIFF writer installed which writes any sound output to the hard drive.

The clients connect into the conference and the Q800 records the whole thing.

The client I used was my PB540 with 20MB ram and it did not miss a beat. I don't have any working 030 or lower systems systems so I am unable to test those.

I just have to get my firewall configured so I should be ready to do a test run in a day or so.

wow... you really have this together huh?

it should really be interesting to see the results

I can't do anything on a 68k mac, or with OS9 though, and even then, the 'internet' hours are limited... (I could/should try to get my AudioVision™ monitor out and the 7300 working, but other than that, it's the TiBook and the telephone line...)

Iff'n all of that is settled, so far, as to alot of the details, the next thought would be some topics and people...

IMHO, CaptainZ, ML5, and Trash80 would have alot of good stuff to say, but any of the mlaers certainly...
