Guess what happens in 8 days! My LCIII's 10th Birthday! Now...most of you might say that its not that big an event, but it is for me. Why? Well...this LCIII was my first computer. It came with a 14" Macintosh Colour Display, 4 megs of RAM, an 80 meg HD, an external caddyloading AppleCD 300, an Apple Extended Keyboard II, ADB Mouse II, and a StyleWriter II.I still have the whole machine...except for the 80 meg HD, which bit the dust in 1999, and the first Colour Display, which bit the dust in 2001. THankfully, i've replaced the 80 meg HD with a 250 megger and I also have a pristine condition Colour Display. This has been one of the best Macs I've ever had, and is one of the main reasons as to why I am here, at these forums right now. While that LCII back in the Grade 3 classroom was what introduced me to the Mac, and got me hooked on it, the LCIII gave me many years of enjoyment, and made me realise the many good things about 68k Macs, especially as she started to slowly age. I still have her, and while i don't use her anywhere near as much as I used to, i still use her quite a bit. Anyway, i have a few fun things planned for her birthday, such as:Finally giving her a taste of the internet: YES! Finally, after 10 years, I will be making a post here from the LCIII, which has never before seen the Internet Taking her upstairs and setting her up the way we did back on Day 1, and doing a lot of the fun multimedia stuff we explored during the first few days of ownership. During this time, she will have her 8 meg SIMM removed, and the 250 meg HD will be temporarily replaced with a 40 meg HD loaded up with all the default factory settings/software of the LCIII And you know, it sometimes feels like I only started using Macs yesterday. Heh, I like it!I remember when i celebrated Hamtaro's birthday (my iMac) it was it's 4th bDay, and I upped it to OS9... Congradulations though, for owning one computer for 10 years, I would never be able to do something like that (maybe, dunno.. I've had the 7300 for awhile now, and it is my first mac ) Remember: have all the fun you can living in 1993, because it only happens once every time that you make it happen (and that can be as often as you want, so i guess you're good as far as that goes ) Official 68k videographer Official MLA TourGuide Editor of the MLAgazine "I'm just a normal computer geek who somehow landed a social life" |
